BIOLA HOUR TESTIMONIES

that they hailed from Greece, Ethio- pia, and India, One tradition has it that they were converted to Chris tianity and baptized by the Apostle Thomas. All we know for certain is what the Scripture actually re cords. They were probably magicians in the sense in which the word was used of court m ag ic ian s as in Daniel’s day. They seemed to have had a profound interest in astrology. Perhaps they were familiar with Baalam’s prophecy (Num. 24:17). The Jews believed that special stars announced the births of Moses and Isaac. Modern astronomers have tried to explain the star of Bethle hem saying that it appeared so bright because it resulted in the union of two or three planets at the time. The literal reading of Mat thew 2:9 rules out such a human ex planation. Whatever the star was, it’s significance is that God put it there far above the things of this world. It was out of reach of the man’s fears, doubts and perplexities. The wise men had to look up in order to receive guidance. What wisdom this should show us! Any talk of a new king always upset Herod. The whole city, fearing a change in administration would be accompanied by bloodshed, was like wise concerned. They did not realize that here was the only one who could bring peace to every area of life. May we as believers recognize these blessed facts anew! How it should thrill and challenge our hearts to work for Him until He comes again, and all these earthly shadows flee away. No one else could say, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by Me.” Christ is the only way of access to Jehovah. May we be used to guide others into this marvelous truth of eternal life!
