COME-BACK STORIES I don’t know about you, but I love these kinds of stories. The journey of some underdog (have you seen the movie “Rudy”? If not, you should check it out on Netflix) clawing their way to the top is my kind of story. I like those stories much better than the golden child story where the star starts out as the whiz-kid from the get-go. Like the kid that was born on third base and thought he hit a triple. THANK YOU, MRS. BAUER So maybe Mrs. Bauer knew what she was doing all along. Maybe she knew what she was doing when she yanked me out of third grade and put me in remedial reading. Now I tend to think I can overcome just about anything, that I can do whatever I want to do. And at the end of the day, so can you. I realize that you didn’t sign up for a motivational course. But I’m here to tell you that if something is between you and your dreams — if you have something in your head telling you that you can’t do what you want to do — I would like to tell you that you can overcome it. That you first need to believe that you can. As Theodore Roosevelt said, “Believe you can and you’re half way there.” I can’t promise you that life won’t serve you some bad stuff. Sometimes, it’s really bad stuff. But I’m positive that if you work hard and never quit — that you keep standing back up every time that life throws you down — good things will happen to you if you just gut it out. I don’t know what purpose you have, but I know you have a purpose. You shouldn’t be what gets in the way of your purpose. So, whatever it is, fight your way around it or through it. Go get it. The failures over here are rooting for you. -Bill Turley

MICHAEL JORDAN He got cut from his high school basketball team. Don’t you think he might have got motivated by that? You think? Now he’s a legend. It was all about not being a quitter. Truth is, it was years of hard work, practice, and effort that made him into the greatest basketball player ever.

WALT DISNEY He dropped out of school at a young age. They wouldn’t let him join the Army. One of his first companies went bankrupt due to his inability to run a successful business. He was fired from one of his jobs for “not being creative enough.” You have to ask, really? Yep. This is the same guy that is now considered one of the most creative geniuses in history. None of this would have happened if he had given up when he had a setback in life.

OPRAH WINFREY She was fired from a job because she couldn’t separate her emotions from her job. She was told she was “unfit for television news.” Guess what? That same inability to separate her emotions from her work is why so many people fell in love with her. It’s what makes her authentic. Do you think it stopped her from being successful?
