Prof. J. B. Trowbridge Becomes Head of the Music Department,and Mrs. Frances C. Allison, Superintendent of Women

p R O F . J. B. TROWBRIDGE, who became head o f the Music Department o f the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles, with the opening o f the fall term, comes from fourteen years’ connection with the Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, and eight years at McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, as teacher o f singing—the two positions running concurrently for the last- eight years. The Music News o f Chicago had this to say of Prof. Trowbridge, after his departure for Los Angeles: “He came here fourteen years ago entirely unknown, and by his integrity and character, no less than by his fine musical ability, has made a splendid name and place for himself as director and teacher, having held a number o f fine church positions and having gained distinction in the conducting o f oratorios and other high grade musical programmes.” He is a graduate o f Cornell College, Cor­ nell Conservatory o f Music, and American Conservatory o f Music, and has studied under the country’s best vocal teachers. In addition to his work as a member o f the faculty o f the Bible Institute, he becomes choirmaster o f the choir in the Church of the Open Door, o f which Dr. R. A. Torrey is pastor .1 Prof. L. F. Peckham, who is succeeded by Prof. Trowbridge, has been with the Institute for five years, and has placed, the Music Department on an excellent footing. He has chosen to re-enter the evangelistic field, as soloist and director, with evange­ list John H. McCombe o f Toronto, Canada. In either capacity he has few equals. In addition to his successful work at the head »f the Institute’s music department, he has been choirmaster o f the Church o f the Open D oor; musical director o f the County Christian Endeavor Chorus o f over 100 voices; has directed numerous concerts and has been conductor o f the singing at three State conventions o f Christian Endeavor,

Allison, who became Superintendent of Women and instructor in Practical' Christian Work for Women, at the opening o f the present term, gradu­ ated from the Moody Bible Institute in 1902, and for eight years subsequently served the same institution as superintend­ ent o f all women’s practical work. She was also connected with the Extension Depart­ ment at a later time ; was in ^evangelistic work as Bible teacher apd women’s worker with Rev. Dr. Milford Lyon ; filled the same position with Rev. Bob Jones, and recently has been acting as pastor’s assist­ ant in Denver. She comes to thé Bible Institute o f Los' Angeles admirably equip­ ped.
