THE KING’S BUSINESS

name!” “ Taken out” and “Taken in”—- wonderful thought! . Quite a number o f people died in the typhoid epidemic at Taft, Fellows and Mar icopa, many o f whom, I am afraid, were unprepared. They had about 300 cases. Oh, that our hearts might be stirred to more faithful dealing, for the time is short, and in a little while the “night cometh.”

America as a missionary with her husband. Thus it goes. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the W ord o f God, and there is no W ord o f God void o f power. Acts 15:14 has been very precious to me the last month. How wonderful it is to realize that God is visiting the Gentiles “ taking out o f them a people for His

-------------- O -------------- WORK AT SAN FRANCISCO HARBOR Oscar Zimmermann, Supt.

I N CLOSING the first month o f service in the summer’s -work in San Francisco, praise must be given Him who helped us exceedingly, and for the work He has per mitted us to do in answer to prayer. If has been a blessed privilege and a time never to be forgotten by the worker. A good number o f American, Danish, British, Dutch (Holland), Peruvian and Japanese vessels were reached with the Gospel. Open doors were found every where and we'had a blessed time in per sonal work among passengers and immi grants. The Lord is' opening up the work largely; good helpers, speaking the differ ent languages, are being found one by one, and the foundations are being laid for a permanent, definite, strictly Gospel work on the steamers. The grekt need at present is prayer that the Lord may raise up friends vwhom He can use to support the work—a work in which, in-these days o f apostasy and sec ondary things, every true believer in the “ old Gospel” will be able to rejoice. We were led the last few days especially to pray for $5000, which amount would enable us to “ hold the fort” here for four or five years, reaching souls from all over the globe. For the first year we are praying for $1200, and believe the Lord has friends (four friends) whom He can use to give us $25 a month each, for that period of time. Many are praying with us and we

believe He will honor us by giving us our desire. We also praise the Lord for very dear friends who were led to give $125 for the Gospel in print. One day the worker boarded a Japanese freighter. He had nearly finished visiting each cabin, leaving the Scriptures in each, when the cabin o f the chief officer was entered. The officer, although busy with writing, examined the tracts, but as it was late .and the worker did not wish to disturb this man, was just leaving when he noticed that the officer seemed much interested. Noticing the worker’s evident intention, he said, “Must you go so soon?” And then, “ Please sit down.” This was gladly done, and at once, in answer to the worker’s question, the officer said, “ I’m not a Chris tian,” and when asked why not, he answered, “ God will not accept me,” giving as reason for that belief, “I’m very bad; Gdd cannot accept me.” It surely seemed strange to find an officer o f a large ship making such a confession. There was no question but that the Holy Spirit had beefi ahead o f the worker. Trying to bring the message simply and plainly to this dear soul, going over the same verse or sentence two or three times, the difficulties were overcome and Jesus was preached unto him. Finally, with tears in his eyes, the officer said, “I will accept Jesus,” and then, “ I cannot : accept any other.” Surely the
