Let’s change that. You never know when you will need help getting your livestock off the road. Keep being outstanding in your field.
parents are separated. For some reason, I asked the child, “Do you have good neighbours at both houses?” The child was genuinely confused and responded, “We don’t know our neighbours.” Then I became confused. “What do you mean you don’t know your neighbours? I’ve seen both your houses, both of them almost touching, and you don’t know who lives next door?” My mind was blown, and if I’m honest, my heart was sad. Fast forward a few weeks: my husband had left first thing in the morning, and shortly after, the dog was barking. Not her normal, ‘there’s someone here’ bark, but a panic -- there is something wrong bark. I was still in bed, and admittedly annoyed that the dog had woken me up. I look out to see what was sending the dog round the bend. The horses were on the road!! Yep. There is nothing that makes you move faster than when you see your livestock on the road. If someone had caught what then played out on video, we could have been YouTube superstars! Who played a leading role in our viral-worthy horse-chasing escapades? Our neighbours. Our community of people who are there when you need them, no matter what you need them for. Did they question why their neighbour was running down the road in her pyjamas? No. They just showed up and had a few giggles afterwards! Our house may not be close enough to our neighbours’ to touch eaves troughs, but over the years we have built a relationship with our neighbours that time and time again has proven to be invaluable. In rural communities, there is a wide definition of neighbours. It isn’t necessarily the people who live right next door; it is people who live in your general area, and how fantastic is that? We know that the people who live a few concessions over are our neighbours and that we could call on them, and they on us.
