Komoka Community Market Launches Year-Round Food Hub For the past five years, as the outdoor season winds down each fall, both vendors and customers of the Komoka Community Market have asked the same question: “Can we keep it going through the winter?” While the market has built a loyal following and strong relationships between local producers and customers, the challenge has always been finding an affordable and efficient way to continue operations once the outdoor season ends. Indoor venues proved too costly, and extending the season simply wasn’t practical. This year, that’s about to change. Introducing the KCM Food Hub — a new initiative, headed by Amy Watt, designed to maintain the spirit and success of the Komoka Community Market all year long. The KCM Food Hub will make it easier for customers to access local food and products during the off-season while helping vendors reach their customers in a more convenient, cost- effective way. Its goals include: • Increasing local consumption of locally grown and made products • Maintaining and strengthening customer–vendor relationships year-round • Facilitating sales and efficient delivery • Reducing food waste through an order-based system for prepared foods

• Continuing the momentum built through the Komoka Community Market • Providing a simple way for customers to support their favourite local businesses without visiting each one individually • Strengthening the local economy and enhancing community food security To bring the project to life, the group is renovating space at Komoka United Church on St. Lawrence Avenue. The facility will include a large walk-in fridge, five upright freezers, one large chest freezer, and shelving for 500 customer bins stocked with shelf-stable items. The online storefront will be open this month.
