Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center It’s been a week of fun at the Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center! 10 talented participants got to create and take home their own unique magnets. The gym was a hub of activity with 59 pickleball players and clinic attendees, 7 dedicated walking fitness participants, and 19 basketball enthusiasts hitting the courts. Our self-paced programs continue to draw interest—94 guests used the fitness room, 3 dancers came for Line Dancing. 5 attending Solo Latin Dance Workout, and 12 gathered for games of Mahjong. Senior Games is continuing with great success with 186 participants this week attending our Pickleball event! We're definitely looking forward to our upcoming events which we're expecting to have an awesome turnout! We're getting ready for the second day of Tennis, Track & Field, and RC Sailing. JM Berlin Rotary Skate Park Last week at the J.M.B Rotary Skatepark we had 89 skateboarders and 47 BMXers visit the park.

South County Regional Park Recreation Center

South County Regional Park Recreation Center most definitely had a busy week. Year- round schools are out for fall break, so staff have had fun with the 30 campers! Highlights were fall crafts and water a water slide! Senior Games Pickleball was held this weekend on the outdoor courts. Staff worked together to help make the event a success. In the gym there were 50 playing pickleball and 23 partaking in basketball. RC planes saw 7 while Pilates stretched out 7. The Garden is officially full and gardeners plants are already looking beautiful!

The Recreation Center was alive with activity this week! Pickleball packed the courts with 114 players, filling the space with the sound of volleys, laughter, and a little friendly competition. Zumba with Laurentz brought the rhythm and energy, as 35 participants danced their way through a fun, high- energy workout. Meanwhile, Mahjong continued to grow in popularity with 11 players, mixing strategy, focus, and plenty of friendly chatter around the tables. Get ready for the Monster Pickleball Bash this Friday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.! It’s set to be a frightfully fun day of games, friendly matches, and festive competition on the courts — costumes and good spirits encouraged!

South County Regional Park Pool

South County Regional Park Pool has not slowed down yet! With 441 Patrons taking advantage of the facility for the aquatic needs they have stayed busy. 86 guests worked out in the cool water for the Water Aerobics class. The Fall Break Campers enjoyed the pool as well twice this week. Swim teams have also had a consistent presence in the lap lanes for their practices.

Good news from Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Pool! We had 220 dedicated lap swimmers, 284 fantastic recreation swimmers, 101 energetic participants for water aerobics, 60 swim team members practicing, 5 eager swimmers for swim lessons, 1 dynamic aqua Zumba lady, and 5 scuba students. Centennial Park Pool Centennial Park Pool was truly alive with energy and community spirit this season! A joyful mix of swimmers filled the lanes and the water — from the 61 enthusiastic water aerobics patrons splashing to the beat, to the 198 dedicated lap swimmers gliding smoothly through their routines. Families and friends joined in the fun, with 157 recreation swimmers laughing and playing under the sun. The pool also proudly hosted 157 Port Charlotte High School swimmers and 14 talented divers, whose teamwork and determination inspired everyone watching. Adding to the vibrant scene, 147 Sea Dragon Aquatics swimmers and 3 Masters swimmers dove in with passion and grace. Together, they made Centennial Park Pool a warm, welcoming hub where fitness, friendship, and community came together beautifully.

This weekend, we hosted two amazing Movie Nights under the stars! On Friday, guests enjoyed the Halloween favorite Hocus Pocus, and on Saturday, we turned up the thrills with Friday the 13th. Our concession stand kept everyone fueled up with tasty treats while they relaxed and watched these classic films on the big screen.

Parks & Natural Resources

Land Management This week staff conducted multiple exotic/invasive vegetation treatments across the county. Multiple species were treated including old world climbing fern, cogon grass and melaleuca. Additional treatments of guinea grass were executed at Amberjack Environmental Park total acreage treated is approximately 5 acres. Habitat restoration operations were initiated at Tippecanoe Environmental Park. Operations including overstory reduction and mulching. Approximately 9 acres were mulched. County staff also conducted the first educational outreach event of the fiscal year at Rotunda West community. The subject of the discussion was alligators. Robert Pasquali led the discussion with nearly 100 people in attendance or joining online via zoom. Multiple discussions are scheduled in the coming months.

Parks & Natural Resources

Coastal This week Coastal and Marine staff did a dive at Trembley Reef barge to check on reef health. Staff was very pleased with the amount of biodiversity seen during their survey. Coastal staff also announced the winners for the 2025 pilot program for Charlotte County’s Sea Turtle Lighting Recognition Program- The Waverly Restaurant & Bar, and Pelican Landing. Staff was happy with how this program was received by the coastal community here in Charlotte County and is excited to extend the program to our other islands in the Sea Turtle Lighting Zone starting in the 2026 nesting season. Coastal staff also continues to finalize end of shorebird/seabird and sea turtle nesting season reports, and monitoring Bald Eagles for nesting status for Audubon. So far, no Bald Eagles have laid eggs but with the rigorous nest building and clean up staff has observed, we are expecting some nests to start incubating any day.

Punta Gorda Charlotte Library

Last week was full of creativity, community spirit, and festive fun.

At Toddler Craft, little ones made painted pumpkin patches using apples, while at Cooper Street Recreation Center, participants adopted ghosts, painted jack-o’-lantern rocks, and created wax-resist watercolor pumpkins. Even Ms. Liz faced her fear of spiders with a special spider-themed storytime — though she’s still not convinced spiders are friendly! The Punta Gorda Charlotte Library hosted the City of Punta Gorda’s Fall Festival, where families enjoyed trick-or-treating with local nonprofits, bounce houses, games, and delicious treats — including free hotdogs, hamburgers, and ice cream, courtesy of community partners. To wrap up the week, guests boarded the Murder on the Continental Express during our third murder mystery event. Inspired by Agatha Christie’s classic, the evening was filled with suspense, laughter, and great company. A huge thank-you to our dedicated staff and volunteers for making it all possible!

Port Charlotte Public Library

Preschool Preppers explored the letters F and G with alphabet soup stamping, brushing playdoh off teeth, and building a healthy plate for their puppets, while teens engaged in passionate debate during Anime Club. Friday was a busy day for adult programming, with Musical Bingo featuring songs of the 1960’s, a showing of Night of the Living Dead in the evening, deliveries of library materials to 10 homebound patrons, and our book club meeting at South Port Square, which had 9 people in attendance.

Englewood Charlotte Library

Puppy snuggles and Charlie Brown coziness have made for quite the fall mood here at Englewood Charlotte Library. This past week we have had our guitar group strumming away and our sewers group creating their newest masterpieces. Our Thursday Night Magic the Gathering has been branching out into learning other styles of gameplay and growing their love of the game. Our therapy dogs enjoyed some new stories and our families enjoyed a "Not So Spooky" Halloween party with Ms. Holly. As October winds to a close, we look forward to more exciting events with our patrons!
