St-Eugène woman to act as parade marshal

VANKLEEK HILL | Olive Moore, of St- Eug ène, has been chos en marshal of the 18 th annual Vankleek Hill Horse and Buggy Parade that will be held July 6, beginning at 1 p.m. Olive Moore has lived in St-Eugène since

the countryside because of the bombings. It was there that she encountered and fell in love with horses; she also learned to drive ponies as they were the only method of transportation since gasoline for cars was scarce.

Moore worked as a groom at the stables in Windsor Castle where her employer, Colonel Gerald Leigh, played polo on the same team as Prince Philip. She emigrated to Canada in 1996. At the age of 82, Moore still rides at McAl- pine Equestrian Centre with Samme Putzel. Originated in 1997 as part of Vankleek Hill Village Bicentennial celebrations, the Horse and Buggy Parade is a unique com- munity event in eastern Ontario. Ontario Provincial Police officers and Vankleek Hill firefighters will be on duty to provide security.
