Lessons to Learn from the Rose “I am the rose of Sharon.” R efreshing influence.—The name of Jesus is sweet. “Suffer little children,” etc. 0 pening as a rosebud.—Mark the child hood of Christ—as a lad in the car penter’s ?hop. Sun’s rays open the bud till the full glory is seen. So study Christ’s life and how it grew. S uffering thorns always found near the rosebud. So Christ suffered—the cro,wn of thorns—and we, His dis ciples, must expect suffering too. E verlasting flowers fade; but the contrast is, that Christ’s life and influence never. It is from everlasting to everlasting. The same yesterday, today, and for- ,' ever. Learn how we may possess the Rose of Sharon. The Master Passion With Sir Isaac Newton it was science. His days and nights were giyen to his dia grams, his mathematical table, and his tel escope: With Lloyd Garrison the master passion was the freedom of the slave. With John B. Seeing Jesus “We would see Jesus” (John 12:21). You may see' Jesus in the works of His hands, in His Word, in His sanctuary, in literature, music, art, science, in your own homes, and in heaven. We should strive to see Him because: He is the best model for our own life. It will help us to enjoy the gifts and blessings of life. We shall better understand the mysteries of life. It will qualify us for the duties of life, and help us to endure its afflictions. It will secure for us the glories of life. A11 Grace* God to make all Saving Grace, 2 Corinth ians 9 :8. All Sanctifying Grace, Acts 11:23. All Strengthening Grace, 2 Corinthians 12:9. All Sustaining Grace, 2 Corinthians 9:8. All Establishing Grace, Hebrews 13:9. All Serving Grace, 1 Corinthians 15:10. All Supplying Grace, John 1 :16. All Saving Grace, Romans 5 :15-21. is perfect: cylinder, piston, valve, are in excellent order; no flaw is in the wheel, no obstruction in the flue; finer engine never stood on the iron way; everything is there but steam—and the intending trav eler says, “One thing thou lackest.” The watch has:a golden case; the dial is ex quisitely traced and figured; the hands are delicate and well fixed I everything is there but the main spring—and he who inquires the time says, “One thing thou lackest.” And so we may have everything but the one thing—the right thing, Salvation. Resignation “All God requires of me now is to lie here and cough,” said an afflicted woman. What a sublime lesson in true resignation!
