ThiswasreleasedontheL’OiseauLyrelabel, ownedbyDeca,in1980andIhaveplayedit manytimessincethen.Neverhasitsoundedas goodasitdidthroughtheLinnKlimax.Whether inthechoralpiecesortheindividualarias,this was a wonderful, emotional listening experience,onlyslightlyinteruptedbyhaving toturnthetwodiscsover.
FromthenontheKlimaxneverputafootwrong, nomaterwhatIaskedittoplay,findingtiny nuancesinrecordingsthatIthoughtIknewwel, suchStephenStils’Manasas,wherehewas joinedbymusiciansincludingChrisHilmanof ByrdsandFlyingBuritoBrothersfameandthe twinpercusionatackofDalasTaylorondrums and JoeLalaoncongas,timbalesand other percusioninstruments.Ifyouarenotfamiliar withthisdoublealbumitishighlyrecommended. Itsfoursidesareeachgivenatitleandeachsticks toamusicalgenreasitsmaininfluence,withrock, country,bluegras and bluesalgeting their momentsinthesun. Jaz wasalsoverywelservedbythisLinn.I switchedto45rpm(theswitchturnstogreenat thisspeed)andplayedalfoursideofAnalogue Productions’The Sound Of Jaz (originaly releasedonColumbiain1958)whichhasjusttwo tracksperside.Thesoundwasravishing.Every musician’splayingwascariedintotheroomwith totalrealism.Pluckeddoublebashaddepthand the warmth of that huge wooden body resonating,anddrumssoundedcrispandvery real.
