The student will learn basic patient skills, the role as a member of the health care team, disease processes, cultural diversity, infection control, and safety issues through lectures, discussion, and hands-on practice. This course provides the medical assistant student with the clinical theory and skills that are utilized in medical practice. Emphasis is placed on patient exam- inations, patient care and education, assistance with rehabilitative treatments and modalities, medical and surgical asepsis, and wound care. A review of basic pharmacology, including oral and parenteral drug administrations is also provided. Pre-requisites: HCE- 108 Foundations of Healthcare, and HCE-181 Human A&P and Medical Terminology for Medical Assistants.
