Braham Group presented a show-stopping entry that featured every step in the company’s development up to its 50th anniversary, and the judges’ decision was totally unanimous. Braham Groups’ commitment to excellence started in 1972 with its foundation by Paul Braham and his wife Margaret. The company has grown into an operation that features 45 full-time direct staff, along with over 100 subcontractors and self-employed engineers but works under the same core values forged by Paul. Great leadership, passion for the industry and its future, constant improvement and learning, respect and commitment to customers and a flair for innovation still drive the company forward, even after all those years. In October 2022, the company, previously known as Braham Electrical, celebrated 50 years in business and was rebranded as “Braham Group”. The new name reflects the continued expansion and the company’s ability to provide Electrical Contracting, Mechanical Contracting, and a successful Street and Floodlighting Division. The judges classified the management by the new generation at the helm as “impeccable” and crucial for making this family-run business simply outstanding.

The numbers presented in the entry form told the story the judges needed to hear to elect Matt Thompson Electrical Contractors as the winner of this category. The contractor has been building successful relationships for almost 20 years in the industry, and its excellent work has stood the test of time. The small, family-run business strives for the highest standards of work and the best customer service. Even with only five employees, the company has a large volume of work not only in the domestic sector but also for commercial clients. Large private domestic housing sites account for 60% of their workload, with the remaining 40% being represented by DEICR for the private rental sector and maintenance of over 10,000 domestic and commercial rental units. Matt teaches at SERC and that is where most of his employees came from to help grow the business. However, the training does not stop when they leave college, as the staff is always encouraged and supported to attend any relevant courses of interest and to keep up to date with the ever-changing BS7671 regulations. All the investment and care regarding the team have paid off. During its journey, the company has been approached by some of Northern Ireland’s largest and award-winning builders and completes over 200 new properties each year.
