E nergia Lighting Solutions offers businesses an upgrade to their current lighting system using high-quality, energy-efficient LEDs. The upgrade requires no upfront cost, as it is funded by savings made from the new lighting. Energia recently provided a lighting upgrade at Duffy’s SuperValu, and Director Ceire Duffy revealed the impact on the store’s lighting bills. Can you give us an overview of your business and sustainability goals? We are always looking at ways to improve our energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint. The recent upgrades have been a welcome addition; it’s another step on our sustainability journey. Why did you decide to carry out an upgrade? Was it part of a larger energy- efficiency strategy? Yes, we had previously added new lighting upstairs, along with sensors; upgrading the main shop floor was always something we had in mind, but just hadn’t found a suitable contractor or project manager to carry this out. How did you find the end-to-end process? Was there any disruption to trading? We were very impressed with Energia’s offering. All the instructions and info were explained well. It was an easy process to go through, especially with

using Energia for the fitting. Work was all completed in a timely manner, and there was very little disruption to work on site. The electricians were very helpful and kept us informed. We would highly recommend the process to others. What has been the impact on your store’s lighting bills? We ran the project through Energia’s Lighting as a Service model. We are paying for the works through the energy savings we are making, so we had no

upfront cost for the works. Everything was covered by Energia’s Lighting team, and the whole process was a smooth journey. What advice would you give to a business considering a lighting upgrade? Take the step; along with the improved lighting for your premises, you will also reduce your energy consumption. The lighting quality has been a huge improvement in our store, with customers noticing the difference. It also helps to know you are doing your part in reducing your carbon footprint. From September 2023, the EU will phase out fluorescent lighting. This may directly affect your business, so why not beat the rush and apply for a fully funded lighting upgrade from Energia? You can get your old fluorescent lighting replaced, while also reducing your lighting consumption by up to 80%. Energia will make it easy by managing the entire process from start to finish.
