Domestic electricians who need to formally recognise their skills and experience now have a dedicated Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) route available. The EWA is based on the same content as the Domestic Electrician apprenticeship standard, so both new entrants and existing workers are assessed and accredited to the same industry standard. To be eligible, candidates need to be currently working as a domestic electrician with over three years’ experience and hold at least a Level 2 electrical technical qualification. The Domestic Electrician Experienced Worker Qualification comprises five practical performance units, plus the BS 7671:2018 and full Inspection & Testing qualification. After the qualification is gained, learners must undertake the AM2ED assessment. Ruth Devine, TESP Chair, commented: “We’d like to thank the whole industry working group for the development of this new EWA. It’s an important step in recognising the work of domestic electricians and providing a robust route for competence.” To find out more, visit www.electrical-ewa.org.uk New Domestic Electrician Experienced Worker Assessment now available
ETT offers FREE apprentice aptitude test service for NI electrical contractors
The Electrical Training Trust (ETT) has developed an industry- specific aptitude assessment, to help employers with their 2023 apprentice recruitment. The test will take place on two dates: Tuesday, 15 August and Tuesday, 29 August, from 10.30am to 11.30am at ETT in Ballymena. ETT’s aptitude test aims to provide measurable, objective data that should give a better all-round view of a potential apprentice’s suitability while reducing the work for the employer. The
aptitude tests are made up of three separate tests covering Maths, English and Science and should help to provide a better, more realistic and current view of possible candidate’s skills and abilities than relying solely on formal certificates of education. The results will be shared with the employer and candidate via email in the form of an apprentice profile. Bookings can only be made by potential employers by calling +44 (0)28 2565 0750.
