merce market,” said John Phillips, General Manager of Laminations. “This product is our most innovative in that it requires no equipment or additional packing materials, which cuts down cost and time.” One of the major customer benefits of EBoard is the reduction of product damage which in turn reduces return and reshipment costs. EBoard is easy to apply and easy to remove. There is no need for tape, shrink wrap, strapping or additional corrugate to keep the product in place and protected during shipment. The benefit to the end-user is that the product arrives undamaged, and EBoard can be easily off peeled and disposed of, and since it’s recyclable, it’s great for the environment, as well. EBoard is ideal for products like large appliances and electronics – TVs, washer and dryers; indoor and outdoor furniture – patio sets and sofas; heavy exercise equipment – treadmill, elliptical, weights; and indoor and outdoor sporting goods – canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. PMMI: The Role Of Robots, Cobots Continue To Grow At CPG Companies Consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies have em- braced robotics. Expanded intelligence, mobility, and sensing capabilities are opening up new applications for robots and cobots in processing, primary packaging, sec- ondary packaging, and transport packaging. As a result, usage is growing along the entire line from initial inputs to end-of-line, according to Robots & Cobots, An Automated Future, a white paper produced by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies. Most CPG companies (84 percent) operate robotics somewhere on the line, and this number will rise to 93 percent in the next five years, as shown in a forecast pre- sented in the Robots & Cobots, An Automated Future info- graphic. Deployment of cobots also will see strong growth with usage more than doubling from 27 percent in 2022 to 57 percent in 2027. Improvements in functionality such as vision, self-learning, and artificial intelligence will spur adoption. For CPG companies, installation of robotics can achieve multiple goals: • Reduce labor and repetitive tasks • Increase speed and productivity • Achieve repeatable quality and consistent product handling • Improve operator safety • Minimize waste and human error Today’s robots are more intelligent, significantly fast- er, capable of lifting heavier loads, and easier to operate. Cobots now have sensors for feedback, use hand move- ment-based guides for self-learning, and are more mobile. Robots and cobots also are easier to program and require CONTINUED ON PAGE 44
