Over the past decade or so, Istanbul has become one of Europe’s best gardens each year in late March and April! The Istanbul City Council plants around 30 million tu- lips in the city’s parks, on its avenues and roundabouts etc., resulting in a glorious fes- tival of spring flowers with brilliant splash- es of colour visible at every turn! However, for a real tulip treat – in the form of the International Istanbul Tulip Festival – you’ll have to head to Emirgan Park, one of the city’s largest public parks, located beside the Bosphorus in the Sari- yer district on the city’s European side. It is on Sultanahmet Square that the City au- thorities, in conjunction with Turkey’s most prominent flower company, prepare the Tu- lip Carpet that covers over 1,000 square metres and is considered the world’s largest.
