Beautiful city tailored to the needs of happy people
the beautiful railway station in the centre. Opposite is Tivoli Gardens, one of Europe’s biggest and cra- ziest amusement parks, while the- re is also the Round Tower from which Danes watched the stars for centuries, then begins Strøget, the pedestrian zone from which wi- de avenues run on all sides. Right towards the sea, Opera House and Freetown Christiania, straight to the parliament building, the royal li- fe of Amalienborg Palace and the colourful Nyhavn, then a little to the left, to the wonderful botanical garden. Or exit the rear of the tra- in station and lose yourself in the Vesterbro neighbourhood. It’s best not to have a plan at all, except a plan of the city, and to let Copen- hagen guide you through its friend- ly streets and canals from one be- auty to the next. No matter how clean Copenha- gen really is, no one could ac- cuse it of being sterile. On the contrary, it is lively and warm, painted in all colours, far from any perfection. Wide boulevards, long pedestrian zones, wherever you go... People, tall, beautiful, blonde, dressed totally normally in the midst of the most expensi- ve brands on every corner. They don some raincoat and roll their wheels through puddles like they would on a sunny day. And ba- bies in wheelchairs tucked under awnings, joggers drenched, dogs regularly taken for walks... And everyone smiling, relaxed. Here you don’t need to queue for either a train or the metro, be-
cause when you arrive at the sta- tion, within an average of five mi - nutes, precisely to the minute, transport arrives and you can ta- ke aboard both bikes and pets; there are no crowds anywhere and everything is relaxed. And al- though Copenhagen is objecti- vely beautiful, with its neoclassic architecture, spared from demo- lition for centuries, with muse- ums and parks at every turn, that lightness, peace, some kind of irresistible pleasantness and fa- miliarity – these are the main re- asons why that citys so quickly grows in the heart. We don’t have enough space to present all of Copenhagen’s mu- seums to you, given that the en- tire city is one large museum. You should certainly choose for your soul, from classics to mo- dern art, as you won’t have ti- me to tour them all. Set off from
