Gde se vaš lik nalazi na početku ove sezone? – Oven je u ovom trenutku čovek koji pokušava da pro- nađe ravnotežu, i to možda najiskrenije do sada. I dalje ga snažno vodi osećaj odgovornosti, ali je svestan da ne može sve da nosi sam. Profesionalno, on je lekar koji i dalje ve- ruje u sistem, čak i kada ga taj sistem često razočara. Emo- tivno, umorniji je nego ranije, ali i zreliji. U ovoj sezoni ga zatičemo kao nekoga ko razume da hrabrost ne znači uvek akciju. Ponekad znači ostati i izdržati. I to je jedna od naj- lepših stvari koje sam imao priliku da igram. Zašto je „Uvod u anatomiju“ i dalje relevantan? – Zato što se serija nikada nije bavila samo medicinom. Uvek je govorila o ljudima koji pokušavaju da budu bolji, čak i kada ne uspevaju. Serija ima hrabrost da se bavi teš- kim temama bez cinizma. Publika to prepoznaje. Mislim da je upravo ta emocionalna iskrenost razlog što i dalje traje. Nije savršena, ali je puna života. I to je čini snažnom. Šta vam je bilo najizazovnije u razvoju Ovena kroz sve ove godine? – Najveći izazov je bio igrati čoveka koji često greši, a ipak ostaje dostojan saosećanja. Oven nije lik koji uvek do- nosi ispravne odluke. On reaguje iz instinkta, iz traume, iz straha. Kao glumcu, važno mi je bilo da ne sudim tom liku. Morao sam da ga razumem, čak i kada se ne slažem s njim. Kroz godine naučio sam da je njegova krhkost jednako važ- – Apsolutno. I to je možda najveće iznenađenje od sve- ga. Još uvek postoje trenuci tišine koji imaju veću težinu od velikih zapleta. Kao glumca, to me raduje. Znači da i da- lje postoji prostor za rast. I da priča još nije rekla sve što ima. Kako danas gledate na činjenicu da je serija deo televizijske istorije? – Iskreno, sa velikom zahvalnošću. Retko ko dobi- je priliku da učestvuje u nečemu što nadilazi vreme u ko- jem nastaje. Ljudi mi prilaze i govore kako su uz ovu seriju odrasli, kako ih je pratila kroz teške periode. To nosi odgo- vornost, ali i ogromnu čast. Ne shvatam to olako. na kao i njegova snaga. Dovoljno je što se trudi. Može li vas serija posle 22 sezone i dalje iznenaditi?
Where is your character at the start of this season? - Owen is currently a man trying to strike a balance, and per- haps trying as honestly as possible to date to do so. He continues to be strongly driven by a sense of responsibility, but he’s aware that he can’t do it all by himself. Professionally, he is a doctor who still be- lieves in the system, despite having often been let down by that sys- tem. Emotionally, he is more exhausted than before, but also more mature. This season finds him as someone who understands that courage doesn’t always equat to action. Sometimes it means staying and enduring. And that’s one of the best things I’ve had the chance to portray. Why is Grey’s Anatomy still relevant? - Because this show has never dealt solely with medicine. It has always been about people who are trying to be better, even when they fail. The series has the courage to take on difficult topics with- out cynicism. The audience recognises that. I think it’s precisely that emotional honesty that’s the reason it perseveres. It’s not perfect, but it’s alive. And that makes it strong. What has been the most challenging aspect for you in terms of developing Owen over the years? - The biggest challenge was playing a man who often makes mis- takes, but nonetheless remains worthy of compassion. Owen isn’t a character who always makes the right decisions. He reacts out of in- stinct, out of trauma, out of fear. As an actor, it was important for me not to judge the character. I had to understand him, even when I didn’t agree with him. I’ve learned over the years that his fragility is just as important as his strength. It’s enough that he tries. After 22 seasons, is this series still capable of surprising you? - Absolutely. And that might be the biggest surprise of all. There are still moments of silence that carry more weight than the big plot twists. That delights me as an actor. It means that there’s still room for growth. And that the story hasn’t yet said everything it has to say. How do you view the fact that this series is today part of television history? - Honestly, with a great sense of gratitude. Its rare that you get the opportunity to participate in something that transcends time. People approach me and tell me how they grew up with this show, how it was with them through tough periods. That carries responsi- bility, but is also a huge honour. I don’t take that lightly.
