NM Fall/Winter MADD Messenger 2020

FALL /WI NTER 2 0 2 0

VOL . 0 3

December 3rd 6PM Virtual Candlelight Vigil MADD kicks off its oldest running public awareness campaign "Tie One On For Safety" to promote safe driving during the highest impaired driving fatality holidays of the year. From November 19th - January 1st, MADD encourages tying a red ribbon to your vehicle as a reminder to others to always designate a non-drinking driver so we can all make it home safely throughout the holidays. In 2018, 29% of all traffic deaths occurred from Thanksgiving Eve through New Years. Please call 505-255-2955 to have a TOOFS red ribbon mailed. We are proud to announce our partnership with Albuquerque Police Department, who tied ribbons on over 400 of their service vehicles to help spread the message in this high visibility campaign. For agencies wishing to participate, please email lindsey.valdez@madd.org or call our office.

MADD NM would like to invite you to our virtual Candlelight Vigil 2020. We will be hosting the event on our @MADDNM Facebook page on December 3rd at 6:00 PM. Join us as we honor victims and survivors and take this very special time to remember all who have been affected by drunk and drugged driving. In addition, starting December 1st through December 25th, we will be featuring a “Memory Minute” on our Facebook page as we share photos of those touched by impaired driving to remember and honor them. Although we cannot be together in-person, "from our heart to yours, never forgotten and always in our hearts"

The Apodaca Family

A heartfelt thank you to the Apodaca family for all of their help with MADD initiatives over the past several months. They lost their precious son, Messiah, in September 2014 and allowed us to share their story for our Save the Services Campaign and Walk Like MADD. They are brave story-tellers with a passion to make a difference. They believe their story has the power to affect future choices and we couldn't agree more! The poignant photo above was used in a billboard campaign in the metro area to raise awareness of the devastation caused by drunk driving. Thank you Apodaca family for your strength and help to have a future of NO MORE VICTIMS.

We hope you will join us.
