A MARRIAGE IN SAN CLEMENTE Congratulations to Kevin’s Godson, Brian Poupore!
For the past few newsletters, I’ve talked about some health-related topics filled with technical information on sleep apnea, exercise, and more. So, this month, I thought I’d get away from our usual pattern and talk more about my personal life and what’s been going on; we’ve had some exciting developments. The most exciting is my godson, Brian Poupore, has gotten married! Brian is my brother Barry’s son, and for those who may not know, my brother Barry passed away nine years ago. Since then, I’ve had an extraordinary relationship with all of Barry’s boys, but Brian often calls me up and starts with his classic opening line, “Hey, Godfather!” He even calls me The Godfather, if you know what I mean.
Brian’s wedding was in San Clemente, California, and the wind was ripping when we landed. Mindy and I shared a villa with my brother, Michael, right across the street from the ocean. Just a stone’s throw away was a long pier jutting into the sea for about a quarter of a mile. The pier had quite a few restaurants, and surfers crammed the beach on either side, despite being so windy! There were probably around 100 surfers bumping into each other to catch the waves, even though it was 42 degrees! The wedding took place at the historical Casa Romantica, a beautiful summer home built by the founder of San Clemente, Ole Hanson. The house is now a cultural center. Wedding guests could walk through and witness the city’s development through photographs and artifacts before making their way out onto the lawn where the ceremony took place, overlooking a cliff. The weather was perfect, a sunny 55 degrees, and the sun shone down on Brian and Alexis like something out of a fairy tale. After the ceremony, we entered the courtyard to eat, drink, and dance with plenty of heaters around to keep us warm. The food was incredible, and each wedding party gave speeches that didn’t leave a dry eye. My sister-in-law Kathy, Barry’s wife, danced with Brian to the wedding song she and Barry had chosen many years ago. It was a thing of beauty. I also must say the DJ Brian used had the best playlist I’d ever heard at a wedding. The songs really suited everyone, from the older folks to the 30-somethings like

Brian; nearly every guest got out on the dance floor, flailing the night away.
The wedding was a blast, and even though the trip was a flurry of activity, we still had time to hang out with family and spend time with the ones we love, both here and gone. And that was the best part.

Level Up Your Next Family Game Night IMPRESS YOUR KIDS WITH THESE FRESH CHOICES
If you’re tired of playing Catan every family board game night, we have good news: There are brand-new games in town! Consider adding these three options to your family’s stash. Wavelength Not only is this game perfect for playing with your whole family (ages 5 and up), but it also actively encourages conversation! Up to 12 players can split into teams and use hints from their peers to guess their teammates’ opinions on various topics. The issues can range from the merit of hit movies to “Where, on the scale of wet to dry, is spaghetti?” The New York Times’ Wirecutter ranked Wavelength among the best board games of 2022 and recommended it to fans of other interactive, team-based guessing games like Codenames.
“If you’re looking for a fresh new party game in 2023, Steam Up looks like a real tabletop joy,” GamesHub reports. Steam Up was launched on Kickstarter and, as we write this, is available for preorder and expected to ship soon. Small World Kids ages 8 and up will love this board game, especially if they’re “Lord of the Rings” fans. As Wirecutter explains, “Imagine a game of Risk set in Middle-earth that didn’t take as long to play as rewatching all of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ films would. That’s pretty much the experience of Small World, an area-control game filled with elves, dwarves, and halflings, among others.”
When you sit down to play, you choose a band of magical creatures and a power, then set up your “empire” and battle the other players for land and gold. At the end of 60–80 minutes of strategizing, the richest player wins the game. If any of these games catch your eye, head to your local game store and ask if they’re available, or jump online to snag them yourself!
Steam Up: A Feast of Dim Sum Who doesn’t love a food-themed board game? This fun, fast-paced game for 2–5 players, ages 14 and up, comes with a Lazy Susan filled with dim sum ingredients. You play as a Zodiac animal and aim to collect more dim sum than any other players. Instead of fortune cookies, fortune cards help determine your luck!

You Can Help Improve the Environment! BY USING ECO-FRIENDLY DENTAL PRODUCTS
When you go to the supermarket or drug store, you’ll come across many environmentally friendly products. But did you know you can use eco-friendly dental products? Not only are they good for oral health, but they’re also great for the environment! Here are three reasons to choose eco-friendly products for your oral health. You can reduce plastic waste. All the products you use for your oral health routine — toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, and floss — come in plastic bottles and containers. Although it’s recyclable, the plastic in your dental products cannot be recycled; they are sent straight to a landfill or dumped in our waterways. So, look for brands advertising sustainability on the packaging. Eco-friendly products are biodegradable. Typical dental products are made with polyethylene and nylon, which aren’t biodegradable. Because of this, they can take many years to decompose. Luckily, eco-friendly dental products exist, like biodegradable, compostable, and plastic-free toothbrushes made of bamboo. You’ll experience a more natural clean. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study has shown how the plastics in non-eco-friendly dental products can
negatively impact the reproductive system of lab animals they were applied to. Studies are still being conducted to see if those chemicals affect humans similarly. In the meantime, choosing environmentally friendly dental products made from mineral clay, sea salt, and plant extracts can help you avoid potentially harmful plastics found in many dental products.
Furthermore, many types of mouthwash are made with fake dyes, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and other chemicals. Eco- friendly mouthwashes avoid synthetic chemicals and only contain all-natural and nontoxic ingredients. If you’re interested in purchasing eco-friendly dental products, you can find them at your local supermarket or buy them online. For more information about environmentally friendly brands and items, go online and search for “zero waste” dental products.

According to Amex Travel’s 2022 Global Travel Trend Report, 55% of vacationers are interested in taking longer trips because they can work remotely. The trend of swapping homes is also on the rise. HomeExchange’s website reports that home exchanges of two weeks or more increased by 13% in January-May last year. According to Travel Pulse, 26% of people opt to take a trip that exceeds 10 days.
