Rest and Restlessness. Henry Ford once more has paralyzed everybody by announcing that “ every man needs more than one day in seven for rest and recreation.” He therefore gives his workmen two days vacation each week at the same pay, although it means the employing of 3,000 extra men. We are wondering if God made a mistake when He arranged the pro portion of time for rest. Everyone is looking for leisure time these days, and the more rest they get, the more rest less they get. We believe there is far more danger in not having much to do than there is in having much to do. The devil finds his playfellows among the idle fellows. Power Gone to Waste. Here is the editor of a farm journal who displays what we call good common sense in his estimate of Darwinism. He says: “ If we accept the views of the late Mr. Darwin and others that the early man animal was as hairy as, say, the chimpanzee, it seems a pity that^ when the arrangement was changed, it was decided to retain the vegetation on the chin and jaws. What a mistake! What untold horsepower has been expended in the mere shaving of that stubble daily or tri-weekly. What a waste and annoyance! Petticoat Rule in 1977. Men will soon prepare to give up their jobs and learn domestic science and nursing, for ]?y 1977, says Prof. Ralph L. Powers of the University of Califor nia, “ women will become rulers of the world and men will do the housework and care for the children. His reasons for this prophecy are the increased ac tivities of women, their participation in business and politics, and publicity in the press.” The undue prominence of women has ever been a sign accompany ing apostasy, and man’s failure to acknowledge God . Dr. Abbott ’Fessus Up. Dr. Lyman Abbott, in the Outlook, is frank enough to make the following statement which will be of interest in

High Wages, Assured. Seems to be an organized attempt these days to get the wages of sin low ered. We have strong reasons for doubting if any influence will be brought to bear on the Almighty in this matter. Like Mother, Like Daughter. Editor of the Woodbury Reporter in an article asked why it is that our girls in these days run around the streets so much. An exchange has suggested that they are probably running around hunt ing their mothers. Would Give Less if Possible. A pastor was recently complaining about small church collections and won dering why so many people are giving pennies now. We venture to suggest that it is because we have no smaller coin that they can give. Permanent Blush. We recently read that some of the fair sex pay beauty specialists as high as $10 for a “ permanent blush” . Some of the Christian men are acquiring one •just by being compelled to look at some of the prevailing styles. No Limit to Improvements. There is no limit to what modern science can do in the way of providing conveniences. We have read that Lon don restaurants now provide crimson- tipped cigarettes for women smokers. This Is to spare them embarrassment which has come to some by reason of the lip rouge coming off on the white cigarettes. No doubt the next step will be to provide the gentlemen dancers with white evening coats. Use Your Head. Good Christian people often display odd judgment. A missionary from Alaska has told us of a church that sent two barrels of clothing to the nee|dy natives. The barrels actually, contained a number of straw hats and several tuxedo evening coats. We have just heard of a life convict in prison who has received a book from a kind lady. The title of the book is “ How to Live One Hundred Years” . x I
