T H E K I N G ’S B U S I N E S S would have been disgraceful five years ago, now arou&e no resentment from habitues of the theatre. People, who would, a few short months ago, have been scandalized by scenes portrayed before their eyes, sit, now, in careless disregard o f what is going on "before their very eyes.” The “ good- plays” which are inter­ spersed throughout the week in many playho-uses are more dangerous to the public morals than the down-right vi­ cious play because the "best people” go to see them and these pictures are the “ bait” by which Christian people are led to defend the movie, and the undis­ criminating follow their example in fre­ quenting the play and do not realize that there is any moral difference in what is shown. Someone asked, “ What shall we do about going to plays?” and the answer was “When in doubt, don’t.” Educators, all over the country, who have the vital interests of the young people at heart, are passing stern con­ demnation on the evil influence of the moving picture show. It unsettles the human brain from real work and puts the mind in such condition as to be unable to do hard concentrated thinking. This can hap­ pen, not only to youth but to those of an older growth. The most sacred thoughts of life are constantly laid open before the eyes and subjects which should be sacred, are made common and cheap. The movie is a destructive and not a constructive agency, in the modern scheme of living. The losses it brings are greater than its gains. The Decalogue is trampled on and every item of the moral law disregard­ ed. . : “ Whatsoever things are pure,” are cast to the winds in so far as the
