T H E K I N G ’S B U S I N E S S ECENTLY in some visitation work, one oi tke workers from I ¡rajsll the Institute found an aged ° m i man of seventy-four years ly- ing m in tlie home of his daughter and speedily going into eter nity unsaved. As the daughter was a Christian a few of the workers at dif ferent times went to visit the old gen tleman to try to persuade him to accept Jesus Christ as his Saviour. But each visit instead of meeting with success seemed to enrage the man, and the workers despaired. However, we de cided to try once more and sent a Bible woman to the home with the under standing that she was not to talk re ligion but gain the friendship of the man and as the way was opened, to deal with him. The first two visits were just friendly ones hut the daughter re ported that the old gentleman had been wondering who the lady was and what her mission might be. Evidently sus pecting her purpose, he said during the third visit, “ You know I am not a Chris tian.” But the Bible woman did not deal with him that day except to give him a verse of Scripturer when depart ing: “ And as it is appointed unto all men once to die, and after this the judgment.” The first bit of encourage ment which the worker received was the following report from the daughter. She had prepared her father’s dinner, but as she was busy she did not sit down with him. He waited a few min utes and then asked her if she were not coming. She replied, “No; go ahead,” but still he waited and suddenly she realized what he was waiting for. She' immediately sat down, and when she had asked The blessing he started to eat. The worker made several more visits and as he opened the subject of religion, each time, she became very much encouraged, going so far one time as to take the card along for him to sign. But after greeting her, he ex cused himself, and would say no more. Two weeks later the telephone rang at eight o’clock in the morning and the worker was asked to come out. The gentleman received her cordially and talked earnestly but would not make the decision, saying, “ I cannot, today.” The next day he passed from this world into eternity, having given no audible expression of having accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour. But the day be fore he had said he believed in the shed blood and that there was no sal vation except in Christ. And as his family were all believers and had prayed &

much for him, our confidence is in God’s Word. “ Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” Acts 16:31. An American Pagan A lady tarried after the class, wait ing patiently until the teacher had in terviewed many inquiring ones. Then to open the conversation and introduce herself, she said, “Well, I’m a pagan.” Then followed a statement of the hunger of her heart for the knowledge of a sense of the Lord’s companionship which she felt the Bible Class members had. We asked how much of a pagan she was and whether she believed in a God. Then she told of being an extreme mater ialist until one day the question flashed into her mind— “ Where did you get your sense of justice?” “ Surely not from material things,” she answered to herself. That drove her to a belief in a personal God. So we said, “ Very well, we will start right there with a personal God!” Then with the guidance of the Spirit we went on to ask her if she thought it would be an absolutely im possible thing for this God to give man a revelation of Himself. To this she replied an emphatic “ No.” But we con tinued, “ If it is His revelation, it must bear the earmarks of the supernatural.” To this she eagerly agreed. Then some of the many, many proofs of the super natural inspiration of the Scriptures were given. She went away much im pressed. At a later time the interview was continued and her many eager questions were answered. She was on her way east and so a New Testament was given to her with the request that she begin with the Gospel of John. She had just said, “ Jesus Christ is merely a formula to me,” so we showed her in John 20:31, why the Gospel was writ ten; “ That ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and that believing ye might have life through His name.” “Why,” she said, “ that is exactly what I want to know.” Then we asked her to say from her heart as she read, “ Oh, Lord Jesus Christy reveal Thyself to me.” She caught eagerly at the word “ reveal” and said again, “ Oh yes, that is the very thing I want— for Him to reveal.” The prayers of the worker followed her as she went on her way, and we expect to hear that the dear Lord answered her request.
