King's Business - 1922-07

T H E K I N G ’S B U S I N E S S to thee, and show thee that He is the true God, who is worshipped by the cap tives from Judah.” Then Daniel told king Nebuchadnezzar his dream, and how God was showing him what would happen in the world in the times to come, and that God would send His Son Jesus back to rule as the great King over a.11 the world. Now Daniel believed God would hear and answer his prayer, and that is what our memory verse teaches us. Let us learn it. “ If we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us.” That means that if we love Jesus, we will want to do all He asks us to do in His Word, the Bible; and if we obey Jesus, we will pray for the things Jesus wants us to have, which will be according to His will. Daniel loved God and obeyed Him, and God heard and answered his prayer. Closing prayer.—Our h e a v e n l y Father, we thank Thee for our Saviour Jesus, and help us to always trust and obey like Daniel. THE PLACE OP WORKS Keep faith and works in their proper place. “ I hear you are opposed to works,” some one said to Spurgeon. “ No, I am not,” the great preacher re plied, “ nor to chimney pots; but I would not put them at the foundation.” GOD’S LOVE That was a beautiful thought of the poor lunatic in an asylum, which he wrote upon a -pane of glass in his cell: “ Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made; Were every stem on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade; To write the love of God, would drain the ocean dry, Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky.”

dream which he could not under stand or even remember; He called all his very wise men to him, and asked them to tell him his dream and what it meant, but not one of them could tell him, and they even told the king that he expected too much of them, that nobody could tell him his dream. Then the king was very angry, and he com manded that all the wise men of Baby lon should be destroyed. Now Daniel and his three friends had not been call ed before the king; but as they were among the wise men, the king’s servants sought for them, that they also might be put to death. When Daniel heard this he went into the palace to the king, and promised that if time should be given him, he would show the meaning of the king’s dream, and the king gave him the time he asked for. Now what do 'you think Daniel did, for he did not know the meaning of the king’s dream at all, and he knew that he would be put to death if he did not tell the king about his dream. Some of us know what Daniel did, for he was trusting in God. Of course Daniel knew to whom to go for help, and he went to his three friends and told them just how helpless they were, and asked them to pray witb him and ask God to show him what the king’s dream was, so that they might not be put to death. God heard and answered their prayers, and told Daniel the meaning of the dream. Then Daniel praised God, and said’, “ I thank Thee and praise Thee, O thou God of my fathers, because Thou hast heard our prayers.” Then Daniel was brought in haste before the king, and when the king asked him if he could tell him his dream, Daniel answered, telling the king that no wise man on earth could tell the dream, but listen to what Daniel said. “ There is a God in heaven that telleth secret things; and God has told it to -ms, not because I am wiser than any one else, but that I should tell it
