Family safe cracked A call about a robbery in a home on Bourdeau Crescent in Embrun has turned into a family matter. Police re- sponded to a complaint Oct. 20 about a theft incident in which “a substantial amount” of money was taken from the family safe. The OPP incident report states that the investigating officers concluded a family member was re- sponsible for the theft. A 17-year-old Embrun youth is now charged with theft under a value of $5000. He is scheduled for the Nov. 26 session of provincial youth court in L’Orignal. No name is available under the guidelines of the Young Offenders Act. Battery thieves Police have charged two men from North Dundas Township following the investigation of a commercial break-in Oct. 15 in Winchester in North Dundas Township. Around 3 a.m. that morning a break-in took place at a building on St-Lawrence Street and five automotive batteries were taken. John Vanbridger, 41, and Derek Pap- pin, 50, both of North Dundas Township, are charged with break-and-enter and theft. They are scheduled for the Dec. 2 provincial court session in Morrisburg. Pot possession A 17-year-old Limoges youth is charged with minor possession of mari- juana following police investigation Oct. 20 of an incident at St. Francis Xavi- er Catholic High School in Hammond. School officials called police, reporting an attempt by some students to smug- gle drugs onto one of the school buses. The accused is scheduled for the Nov. 19 provincial youth court session in L’Orignal. Liquor Act A 35-year-old Rockland woman faces a charge under the provincial Liquor Act after police stopped a black pickup truck she was driving along Limoges Road in The Nation municipality on Oct. 25. The woman is charged with driving with an open container of liquor in the vehicle. Her passengers in the pickup truck also face charges under the Liquor Act. A 39-year-old Ottawa man was ticketed for drinking alcohol in public, other than in a licensed premise or at a pri- vate function or home. A 34-year-old Bourget man was ticketed for having an open container of liquor in the vehicle. Barn burglary Hawkesbury OPP have a break-in case involving a barn in The Nation munici- pality. Police were called Oct. 20 after- noon to a Concession 5 address in The Nation. The complainant reported a break-in that took place sometime be- tween Oct. 18 and 20. The thief broke into a barn and other storage buildings on the property and left, taking some cords of wood, a Honda snowblower, some CDs, a variety of tools, a set of skis, and two aluminum ladders.
