Trail Plowing in Winter Chanhassen maintains more than 70 miles of public trails and 12 miles of sidewalks through the winter to keep them safe and accessible for walking, running and biking. Trail plowing follows the city’s snow and ice management plan, with priorities similar to street plowing: » Priority A: Major connectors and trails along arterial streets, often requiring multiple passes when street plows push snow onto them. » Priority B: Neighborhood trails and less-traveled connections. » Priority C: Low-use trails, cul-de-sacs and some public facility areas, where service may be delayed until higher- priority routes are clear. Plowing usually begins early in the morning and continues until all routes are cleared. After storms of more than two inches, crews may return several times to keep heavily used trails open. Salt use is limited to key spots like hills and curves to protect local water quality.
