• It will be difficult to choose between this daughter of the $115,000 Brown BLW Fantastic C5959 and her fantastic Titus heifer calf. You might just want to double your money and take both - that’s the only way to be assured of getting the best one. Both are exceptionally easy on the eye and equally blessed with the genet- ics to improve both cow herd efficiency and post-weaing profitability. This highly fertile dam is not only bred back to drop another Titus calf, but she should move up a month in doing so. That calf in her belly could be your next herd sire or donor dam.
FERTILITY EPD The Fertility EPD (FERT) predicts differences in the calf crop percentage expected from a bull’s daughters! High Fertility EPD bulls will build cow herds with consistently better breed back and deliver a higher percentage of calves to the weaning pen. Higher Fertility also lowers cow herd culling requirements which reduces replacement rates; which in turn reduces cow herd depreciation costs and provides a larger percentage of the heifer calves that can be sold. As you would imagine, these more desirable outcomes drive HUGE differences in profitability, so the Fertility EPD has tremendous impact on $Profit and $Ranch. The Sale Catalog Data Explanation on the top of page 6 shows where the FERT EPD is presented in the sale catalog. The example below is useful for better understanding the trait units of the FERT EPD. FERT EPD Example: Bull A has a FERT EPD of 2.5 Bull B has a FERT EPD of 1.1 1.4 We would expect the daughters of Bull A to produce on average 1.4 more calves over their first 8 years of production than the daughters of Bull B.
