I often reflect on what has sparked my interest in being a member of this organization for all these years. Why have I been a Jaycee for 41% of my life ? And while receiving some nice hats, shirts, jackets, and other perks are enticing, the true value of serving as a Chagrin Valley Jaycee is rooted far deeper than tangible materials. There ’ s a culture surrounding this organization that ’ s truly exceptional. At its foundation, being a Jaycee encourages the pursuit of personal growth and attaining professional development. On top of that, it ’ s about making bold decisions while knowing you have the support of experienced leaders from all walks of life. It ’ s about building confidence in oneself through the planning and execution of activities, events, and projects for the benefit of others. It ’ s about comfort and surrounding yourself with an arsenal of good-hearted individuals. And my personal favorite, it ’ s about building lifelong friendships. I have the Jaycees to thank for my professional career, my social circle, and most importantly, the character I have developed over the years. The Jaycee character is one that encourages volunteering and dedicating one ’ s time to others. It ’ s a character that emphasizes working smartly, but never forgetting that true reward goes hand and hand with getting your hands dirty. Our members are not above picking up trash, setting up tables and chairs or climbing telephone poles in the dead of winter to hang holiday lights. The Jaycee character that is to always be welcoming to others, realizing that so many seasoned Jaycees offered support and opportunities to you, and knowing that it is important to offer that same support and encouragement to others. The Chagrin Valley Jaycees is continuously growing, and I contribute that success to its membership. We are over 250 members strong, being comprised of doctors, painters, lawyers, managers, laborers, business owners, financial advisors, carpenters, landscapers, and insurance guys, who all bring their professional skills to the table for the advancement of our organization. We often marvel at the fact that very few other groups are able to pull off an event like the Blossom Time Festival in Chagrin Falls, and even fewer still can decorate an entire village with lights, garland, and trees within a three-hour window during the holiday season. This past year I have had the absolute privilege of representing this outstanding group of dedicated volunteers as Jaycee President. I ’ m very proud of our organization ’ s purpose, it ’ s membership, and all the effort our team dedicates, year after year, to enhance the quality of life for the residents of the Chagrin Valley. I owe a lot to the Jaycees, but mostly I owe the Jaycees a great debt of gratitude for helping to shape the man I am today. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT The Board of Directors and Blossom Time Chairman continue to look for ways to improve the Blossom Time festival. This year, there are so many things to tell you about, we decided to send it out to the public in advance as a public service announcement.
ALL-WEEKEND RIDE BRACELET The Jaycees will offer an All-Weekend ride bracelet again this year for $100 (when purchased pre-sale), which will be good for every session, all weekend long. These can be purchased online at the CVJCs website: cvjc.org. By purchasing your wristbands online prior to the event, you will be able to avoid the long lines at the ticket booths and pick up your pre- purchased wristbands at the Jaycee booth located at the Big Top tent entrance. Wristbands purchased at the festival will be $125. BLOSSOM TIME POSTER Back by popular demand, Lyndall Insurance and the Valley Art Center conducted a contest to create a commemorative 2024 Blossom Time poster. The winning submission will be available for sale in the Jaycee booth or online at cvjc.org. There will even be limited-edition prints, signed and numbered by the winning artist! What a great way to commemorate a class reunion or special year!
SAFETY REMINDER Each year, the Jaycees meet with the Village Officials, before and after the event, to discuss the event and look for ways to ensure the safety of all attendees. One area of emphasis is crowd control at the parade. The parade is exciting for children and they may not realize the danger of running in the street. Parents – it is your responsibility to ensure your children are not running into the street and stay back at the curb. RIDE BRACELET/TICKET PRICES Ride bracelet session prices can be seen on page 25 - All weekend pass $125 Please remember that the funds raised from Blossom Time are donated to 30+ worthy organizations throughout the year that directly impact life in the Chagrin Valley.
BLOSSOM TIME RUN: STOP THE BANDITS! The Blossom Time Run has more than two thousand runners but the number of people who don't register is estimated at over 500. With an entry fee of $35, this is over $17,000 in lost revenue. As previously stated, these proceeds go to support worthy causes in our own community. Additionally, the extra runners may interfere with registered runners who are interested in official race times. Please take the time to register for the race. Your registration will get you a Blossom Time Run T-shirt (while supplies last). If you choose to still not register, there will be officials at the starting line asking runners without a numbered bib to move to the back of the race field

Chagrin Valley Jaycees, in partnership with Chagrin Valley Art Center and Lyndall Insurance present the winner of the fifth annual Blossom Time Commemorative Poster Contest. Artists of all ages were invited to enter their best depiction of Blossom Time in Chagrin Falls. After going through many wonderful entries, we arrived at the winner: "Pure Joy" by Rachel Liberati Runners up were Terri Shoecraft and Sheila Reingold The poster will be available for $10 each or $20 for a limited edition signed poster. They will be available at the Jaycees booth all weekend long.

Beginning at 9am, Kids Day offers the younger crowd the opportunity to enjoy the BT kiddie rides. Along with a Jungle Terry performance under the Big Top Tent we have Balloon Artists and Swifty the Clown, who will entertain the kiddos and make their wonderful balloon creations. Our local sponsors provide activities, crafts, games and treats for those in attendance! And, from 10-Noon there will be games under the Big Top that include egg toss, a pie eating contest, and more!

The Celebration of Children is an annual event where the Jaycees invite children with special needs from various regional schools and programs to enjoy Blossom Time in a lower stimulus environment. Parade On Sunday May 26th, Chagrin Home Improvements, Ganley Chevrolet of Aurora and the Chagrin Valley Jaycees will present the annual Blossom Time Parade. This event is traditionally the climax of the Blossom Time Festival. The parade has become one the finest and most colorful parades in Ohio. This celebration was held annually in Chagrin Falls prior to World War II, and was revived by the Jaycees with great success. Bands, floats, fire engines, marching units, antique cars, and clowns from all over the state of Ohio have been among the featured attractions in past years. Previous years parades have charmed an estimated 60,000 people, this year we are expecting and even larger crowd. We the Chagrin Valley Jaycees Charitable Foundation, Chagrin Home Improvements, and Ganley Chevrolet of Aurora would like to welcome everyone to the long-awaited Annual Blossom Time Parade in Chagrin Falls, Ohio!

Luke received his pilot's license in August of 2006. Since then, he has flown in a number of balloon events across America both on his own and as a Re/Max pilot. He has also flown in Mexico. Luke owns and operates the Falcon’s Nest balloon repair station in Seville with Russell Wells and Mike Lorentz. He is also the area sales representative for Kubicek Balloons, which is based in the Czech Republic. He has over 300 hours as Pilot-in-Command.
Ken is a local pilot who has logged over 400 hours as Pilot in Command. He was the 2000 NOBPA Rookie of the Year and won the NOBPA Club Championship in 2003 & 2008, helped by a win here in 2008. He also enjoyed participating in the BFA Longjump Competition in 2003 & 2004, flying at altitudes up to 12,500 ft and covering 188 miles in 4 hours. Ken is self-employed and works as a service contractor in the northern Ohio area. With the retirement of Craig Lucas this year, Ken has taken over as Balloonmeister.

Jim became interested in ballooning in 1990, the year he moved to Bainbridge Township. That Memorial Day weekend the Blossom Time balloons flew over his home several times. He started crewing for Bill Cloninger in 1999 and in 2007 trained for his pilot’s license in the Heber Valley at the Balloon School in Park City, UT. One of his most memorable flying experiences is the beauty of that valley at 2000 feet. Other memorable experiences include flying at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in 2010, 2012, 2014, & 2021 with 500 other balloons. He has also flown in a number of events around Ohio as well as in other states. He has flown in Temecula, CA and the desert area around Ocotillo Wells, CA. Part of his joy in ballooning is being able to share his sport with others.

Eugene is back again at the Blossom Time Balloon Festival with an Adventurous Spirit. He got his start in ballooning in 1991 when he began crewing for local pilots, Terry Wasson & Craig Lucas. He began lessons and received his private pilot license in 2001. His crew consists of his wife Lauren, daughters Kate and Brooke, and friends Tim White, Mark and Jane Shaw, and Christine Sajen.

Pat got his start in ballooning crewing for Debby Young. He later received his lessons from Debby and received his private pilot license in 2001. He was flying when he can, which was hard when you have to borrow a balloon. In 2015 he got a balloon from Debby Young, and was been flying a little more regularly. Early last year “Thingamajigger” reached the end of life, so he was unable to participate in our event. Pat is returning this year with a new (to him) balloon, Candy Jar. His crew consists of his wife Valeri (Debby's daughter), and daughters Marissa and Roylynn, along with others.

Greg received his pilot's license in 2004. Since then he has been NOBPA Rookie of the year in 2005, got his commercial license in 2007, was NOBPA champion in 2013, and was a BFA Long Jump winner in the winter of 2 years. He organized and had been the Wellington Balloonfest event director from 2008 to 2017 and has been Balloonmeister in Ashland from 2016 to 2023, as well as assistant director right here from 2007 to 2009. Greg has also been weather officer and safety officer at other events, and has also flown in several balloon events both in Ohio and other states. Besides doing commercial flights, he really enjoys sharing his sport with family and friends. He is approaching 1000 hours as Pilot-in- Command and brings his new balloon, Phoenix.

My experience with growing up in Chagrin was great. I love the constant support that the community gives whether that be through sports teams or other exciting events. Being from here my whole life has given me such great opportunities and I'm very grateful to have had my childhood in Chagrin. I plan on attending The University of Tampa in the fall and I'm studying communications. Some of my accomplishments throughout high school are getting 2nd CVC twice for girls golf, honorable mention in girls golf, honorable mention for cheerleading, I've gotten 2 english awards throughout high school, social media chair for ed foundation, co-president of wellness club, link crew for 2 years, I've been dancing for 14 years.
Growing up in chagrin was so special to me because I was able to be with all of my classmates from kindergarten to graduation and that gave us the ability watch each other become the people we are today. I plan on attending Ohio University and major in photojournalism. Awards- Tiger of the semester, rotary student of the month, gold art award, photojournalism award, two years on varsity basketball. Clubs- Leader of the wellness club, member of link crew, member of ultimate frisbee club. I love attending concerts with friends and going on vacations with my family. Some places I have traveled with my family is Naples Florida, Dylan Colorado, and New York City.
