Interdisciplinary Studies on the Human Condition

As for risk factors, these are characterized by context, whether we are talking about the alteration of reactions for a quick need of dopamine or unverified information taken from sources that encourage misinformation, the subject grows in interest. According to Anderson and Buchman (2001), a significant portion of young learners express a preference for aggressive media content, with 59% of fourth-grade girls and 73% of boys reporting that their favorite video games feature violent themes. But in a more optimistic way, another study (Rosser at al, 2007) concluded that the skills used in video games are a good predictor of surgeon’s success in performing laparoscopic surgeries. When it comes to mental health, 95% of people in a study conducted by Mental Health America with 2600 participants have regular access to technology and 88% use it for essential aspects. 44% note that they do nothing to stop the negative aspects of technology and 81% of people between 18-24 rely on technology, mainly for entertainment. In contrast, those with poor mental health are more likely to feel distracted, dependent, frustrated with how they use their devices than those with good mental health that are more likely to associate technology with information, connection, and productivity. 32% of individuals hope for the simplification of life with the help of technology, 31% wish for easier learning, and 31% increased productivity, but 46% fear the loss of privacy, 43% human decline, and 31% addiction and loss of attention. In conclusion, technology is evolving rapidly and constantly and has positive aspects that help individuals in their daily lives, increasing opportunities, but if it is not used in a moderate and intentional manner, it can cause harm, depending on the context.
