who were instructed to lie, actors who were supposed to indicate the wrong answer, and individuals who were tested to understand group conformity. Although individuals, when tested alone, gave the majority of correct answers, in a group setting, 32% conformed to the group’s incorrect decisions. This experiment demonstrates the idea that people are willing to conform despite having different ideologies. In conclusion, the concept of cancel culture can be legitimate to hold individuals accountable, but it can also stifle free expression and promote intolerance. Considering the human need for validation and the fear of being morally challenged, there is a significant risk that individuals may be influenced by collective opinion or by the subjective elements they have been conditioned with. However, there are limits to freedom and tolerance, largely created by social concepts, which makes it significantly better to have well-defined limits on what we allow because freedom should not become a means for injustice and a lack of critical and ethical thinking.
