Vol. 4 | Fall 2019

WRITING by TIA WILKINS and BETH WHEELER T H E F E S T I VA L O F T R E E S The Festival of Trees, a thirty-two-year annual tradition, rings in the holiday season and spirit of giving here in Helena. Helenans know, when you wake to find mount Helena covered in frost and windows glazed with the subtle markings of ice, The Festival of Trees is just around the corner. The anticipation of the weeklong events, and the community support needed to conduct such an immense affair, stirs up the feeling of holiday magic. Through the fogged windows of homes and shops you will catch glimpses of children practicing their dance routines, store owners selling Festival of Tree tickets, and volunteers decorating a tree, wreath, swag, or stocking to be sold at the silent auction. The Festival of Trees is a fundraiser supporting Intermountain, whose mission statement is, “To heal through healthy relationships.” Intermountain is a non-profit agency that helps more than 2,300 kids, teens, and families each year struggling with emotional distress, behavioral health, and/ or substance use. Intermountain supports families across Montana, with thirty-one different locations throughout the state, while also supporting kids through therapist teams at seventeen different schools in Montana. All proceeds from the Festival of Trees fundraiser directly support this valuable work. Housed at the Helena Civic Center, dozens of large trees, exquisitely decorated by festival design teams, line the ballroom floor in an elegant display. Each tree is sponsored by a business or individual. The elaborately adorned trees are auctioned off at
