Week. As part of the initia- tive, Mike McNally, presi- dent and CEO of Skanska USA, toured the Brookland Middle School project job- site in Washington, D.C., to address workers about the importance of safety. The mission of SafetyWeek 2014 is to eliminate worker injury by coming together as an industry to raise aware- ness about the importance of safety in the workplace. Throughout the week, con- struction firms across the country participated in a va- riety of activities that elevate worker safety and health, which included training ses- sions, partnering with local organizations, and informa- tional sessions on safety tools and resources. Wilmington, DE — On May 7, a patient at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children led Skanska’s entire construc- tion team in “Stretch and Flex” during Safety Week. Stretch and Flex is a daily routine Skanska practices on all of its jobsites and inside all of its offices around the country to physically prepare for a safe workday. Skanska is currently ex- panding the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Chil- dren, helping Nemours build a healthier future for chil- dren. The expansion project started in 2011 and is sched- uled for completion this fall. While this is Skanska’s 10th year celebrating Safety Week, it is the first year the construction industry has come together to promote jobsite safety. n
