had taken ¿the lad when quite young to work for him, just after, the lad was left an orphan. The man had forced the boy to do hard labor and beat him cruelly. Our heroes kidnap him and take him to a distant village to some of his close relatives, iwho have been deceived as to real conditions. The undertaking is, ham pered all along the road with many delays and difficulties, but the boys deposit their charge at the desired destination, thus accofnplishing much for him and inci dentally gain for themselves. It is enter taining for the more mature adult as well as for young folks. Published by Fleming H. Revell Co. Price $2.—R. D. —o— Evangelistic Doctrines of the Evangel of Christ B y J. W. W ood , M. Dr. Porter is the widely known pastor of the First Baptist Church of Wash ington, D.C. We welcome this latest volume of choice sermons from him. Dr. William Wilbur, Dean of George Wash ington University, in an appreciation, well says: “Dr. Porter bids us listen and then retires to the background, so that we see and hear, with certainty, ‘no man save Jesus only!’” James J. Davis, Sec retary of Labor, is a regular attendant of Dr. Porter’s Church, and in a foreword which he writes, he says: “This volume of sermons, most of which I heard de livered, is a cross-section from the preach ing, of a man with a message for our times. His preaching in our capital city has been a lamp of steady flame, and his friends believe that in the publication of this book, his light will shine with a far-
