E. — o — Is Our Christianity a Failure? B y J ohn R. C lark H all While this new book, written by an evangelical lay member of the Church of England, deals largely with the successes and failures of that particular group of believersand might more correctly be titled “Is the Church of England a Fail

ure?” there is much within its covers to profit believers of all denominations. Contrasts between the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and the Reform ed Church of England are clearly stated. Emphasizing the absolute necessity of daily Christian living, the author writes in chapter VIII on “Reforms For the Re formers” :»“We must .get rid of our habits of spiritual indolence—largely engender ed, as we have said, by the notion that salvation is an incident in life and not a lifelong process—and we must recover those habits of prayer and meditation and

ther glow.” The sermons have largely to do with the Scriptural teachings as to right relations one to another. In days of much controversy it is easy to lose sight of our proper attitude one to another. We can all well afford to ponder these time ly messages, twenty in all. Published by Doubleday-Doran. $1.75.—B. —o— Seventy Best Bible Stories B y G eorge G oodman In this new book prepared especially for preachers, teachers and leaders, we find a collection of outstanding Bible stories from Genesis to the Acts of the Apostles, graphically described in outline form, thus providing the teacher with the ground work upon which to build his message. Most of the stories ,are con sidered under the following heads: Text, Principal Lessons, The Story, Further Lessons, Application, Suggested Outline. The Suggested Outlines are splendid for blackboard work. The purpose of this book as given by the author in the Introduction “is to put in a usable form the Old Favorite Bible Stories of our childhood.” In addition to the stories will be found four helpful chapters on “The Teacher’s Mind,” “On Giving the Address,” “The Wise Preacher” and’ "B&aleel,- an Illus- tration.” Published by Pickering & Inglis, Lon don, England. Price $1.25. English 3 shil lings.—A. S. P. A brief topical study of each chapter of the book of Proverbs is taken up in this new paper-covered book, published by G. F. Vallance, Goodmayes, Essex, England. Price 50 cents, English, Is. 6d. , We most heartily recommend this book to all teachers of young people. The stud ies are clear and instructive, bringing out by means of comparison with other Scriptures, the fundamental teachings of this wonderful Old Testament book of instruction for the youth.- -A. S. P. —o— Revelation, the Crown-Jewel of Biblical Prophecy Two V olumes by W. C. S tevens The Christian Alliance Publishing Com pany brings out two new volumes on prophecy which will interest all who en joy these lines of study. The author, W. C. Stevens, is quite a w i d e l y known teacher and has the reputation of being a man of one book—the Word of God. As a pastor he built up his flock in Bible knowledge and his exposition of prophecy was always an attractive feature. Volume 1 is designed to present a survey of Old and New Testament prophecy with the exception of the book of Revelation. He points out that “one is not prepared to read Revelation until he has reached this terminal over the broad-gauge track run ning all the way through from Genesis.” Volume 2 gives an illuminating interpre tation of the Apocalypse. The author treats it from the futurist view-point and gives a satisfying exposition. Whether or not one can agree with all the views taken, he will surely find much in these volumes that will be enlightening and Outlined Proverbs B y R obert L ee
