T h e K i n g ' s B u s i n e s s in a way that would not fit in with the Old Testament uses? If He used “leaven” in the sense of goodness and purity con quering the world, would His Jewish hearers have known how to take Him? Leaven is sour dough—corruption subtly at work. It is invariably used in the Jew ish Scriptures in a bad sense. Meal was used in the sweet-savor offerings (Lev. 2:1-3) and as food for the priests (Lev. 6:15-17). There is no difficulty in seeing how our Lord used the word “leaven” in other places (Mt. 16:12; Mk. 8:15). This author, however, says . the “woman" is Christ, the “leaven" is His kingdom and the “meal” is corrupt humanity. He speaks of the “struggle of the kingdom against war, the saloon, the political dis franchisement of woman,®cruelties of child labor,” etc. and thinks “the ferment of Christianity is working mightily,” and that the Spirit of civilization will grad ually be leavened. Making an individual application, he says: “If we let the leaven of the love of Christ work in us, we may become sons of Godtf&{: The interpretations are mostly on the lines of familiar post-millennial teachings, viewing the kingdom as advancing to the conquering of all society through the so cial and moral expressions of Christian ity. The great soul-winning program of our Lord has little or no emphasis. We prefer to adhere to the plan of making the Bible its own commentary. We are sure we cannot go far wrong and we will cer tainly create fewer contradictions in Scripture teachings than by following the popular method of interpreting parables. What Is An Alliance Annuity Agreement ? AN ALLIANCE Annuity Agree- ment is a legal contract en tered into by the Christian and Missionary Alliance, an incor porated body, and the Christian investor, who is called the An nuitant. In consideration of the sum or sums given, the Christian and Mis sionary Alliance agrees to pay to the Annuitant regularly, as long as he lives, a specified amount, based on the age of the Annuitant. The Christian thus makes a safe investment of his funds, assures himself of a liberal income for life, and at the same time makes a substantial contribution to the great task of taking the Gospel to the neglected, pioneer fields of earth.
