THE' . K I N G ’S B U S I N E S S unnecessary accoutrement, neither were they to be controlled by worldly con ventionalities. The Eastern salutation was an illustration. It necessitated much bowing and scraping and useless ceremony. Their mission was impor tant. “ The king’s business requireth haste.” God’s messengers are not to be conformed to the wo>rld. They must be about the Master’s business, and in order to master their business they must give themselves wholly and heart ily to it. There is nothing more sacred or solemn than the deliverance of God’s message- to dying men, “ Brethren, the time is short!” Their mission is one of peace. They are to be a blessing to men. The home that receives them', receives Him. If they are not welcomed, their peace re turns, as did the dove to Noah’s ark. They will have the consciousness of having offered the blessing and peace will sway their souls. Their mission is one of contentment. The Master will provide for them through natural channels, and they Will be satisfied with such things as are set before them. They are worthy. “ They that preach the Gospel should live of the Gospel.” The ceremonial laws were not to bind them, as Jews. They were to be mod erate and modest. The message was concerning the kingdom. It had come nigh them. Al ready the leaders had rejected the King and His Kingdom, and now the proffer was to be made to the people. The message was to be accompanied with a sign— the sick were to be healed. Health is the accompaniment of the Gospel message. The healing of the body was a symbol of the healing of the soul, and the healing of the soul means fiiuch for the body. The kingdom was brought to' them. The door was opened. It had been prophesied, longed for, sought for; now it was theirs for the taking.
1174 was the ligh t; they were lights. They were to reflect'His own life. He would follow them. Whatever they did was to be done in His name, upon His au thority. ' They were to prepare the way for the manifestation of His personal presence. We are not sent in place of Him, hut to make way for His coming. We are the voice of the herald-—the hand that points. They were sent in pairs. “ Two are better than one, for if they fall the one will lift up the other, but woe unto him that is alone when he falleth!” 'Two is the number of testimony: “ In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every truth be established.” Two is the smallest number that can Be gathered together: “ Where two or three are gathered in My name.’’ The prom isees made to two: “Where two of yc>u agree as touching anything that ye shall ask.” There is strength, sympathy and fel lowship in love’s labor for the Lord. “ One can chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight.” Prayer. The harvest was great, the laborers were few. They were to begin with prayer, lest thé multitudes of un saved should discourage.tifem and unbe lief and indifference dissuade them; lest they should be feeling their own im portance and forget that the time was short. The need was so great that as they labored they were to pray for more laborers. They were as lambs in the midst of wolves and would need to feel the conscious touch of the Master in prayer. He would prove to be the Good Shepherd to them and save them out of the hand of the lion and the bear. , Program. He gave them definite in structions. -They were to be free from anxiety concerning their safety and their supply. “ I send you.” He who sends them out is responsible for, their care. Their confidence is to be in Him. They were not to be encumbered with
