Unit Summary: In this unit, students will learn about basic economic terms and concepts such as resources, producers and consumers, and interdependence. They will also engage in an inquiry to explain how they are part of the interdependence web in their community. Unit Standards: N/A Table of Contents: Week 28: Urban, Suburban, and Rural Land Use Week 29: Producers and Consumers Week 30: Community Interdependence Week 31: Transportation Over Time Week 32: Inquiry - Interdependence in Your Community Unit Essential Question: How do producers and consumers influence change in communities? Unit Learning Objectives: ● Students will demonstrate how producers use the resources around them to meet the needs and wants of consumers in their communities. ● Students will learn about interdependence and be able to explain the interdependence on some of the resources in a community. ● Students will learn about different forms of transportation and trace how they have changed over time. ● Students will engage in guided inquiry to explain how they are part of the interdependence web in their community. Unit “I Can” Statements: ● I can demonstrate my understanding of how producers and consumers meet their needs in my community. ● I can create an infographic that shows the relationship between wants, needs, goods, services, producers, and consumers. ● I can show how producers and consumers meet the needs of their community. ● I can identify and explain the interdependence of some of the resources in a community. ● I can trace how different modes of transportation have changed over time. ● I can engage in the guided inquiry process to explain how I am part of the interdependence web in my community.
