trine o f the endless torment o f thé impeni tent, if the doctrine really gets/ hold of you, you will work as you never worked before for thé salvation o f the lost. I f you in any wise abate the doctrine, it will abate your zeal. Time and time again I have come up to this awful doctrine and tried to find some way o f escape from it, but when I have' failed, as I always have failed at last, when I have determined to be honest with the Bible and myself, I have returned to my work with an increased burden for .souls and an intensified determination to spend and be spent for their salvation. Eternal, conscious suffering, suffering without the least ray o f hope o f relief,; awaits every one o f you here tonight who goes on persistently rejecting Jesus Christ, as you are rejecting Him tonight, and who shall pass out o f this world having rejected Him. In that world o f never ending gloom There is a critical situation in China. If Christianity 4oes not conquer China now they ,will drift from paganism to atheism. What that would mean to the world, who will dare predict. China is big enough to some day rule the world. Under evil influ ences she may some day avenge the evils she has suffered. There is no country that could mustervsuch an army. There are no people that can endure more, hardships. They are a hardy race able to subsist where other people perish. Some day China will not meekly submit but will assert her rights and woe be to the world if there is not the restraining influence at least o f tne Christian faith. Only one thing can cause the Chinese to love the foreigner and that is the power o f the .Gospel. The American Tobacco Company in. its free distribution o f cigarettes says, “A cigarette in the mouth o f every man, woman and child in China.” Shall we do less in giving the Gospel?

there will be no possibility of repentance. As you look out into the future there will not be one Single ray o f hope. “ Forever, and ever” will be the unceasing wail of that restless sea o f fire. After you have been there ten million years and look out toward the future you will see eternity still stretching on and on and on and on, with no hope. Oh, men and women out o f Christ, why will you risk such a doom for a single year, or a month, or a week, or a day? Hell is too awful to risk for five minutes the chance of going there. There is. but one rational thing for you to do, that is to accept Christ and accept Him right now as your Saviour, surrender to Him as your Lord and Master, confess Him as such before the world, and strive from this time on to please Him in every thing day . by day. Any other course is utter madness. Opium is being replaced in China by other drugs. Attention has already been called to the alarming increase in the ex portation o f morphine from Great Britain to China. Japan re-exports large quanti ties o f morphine surreptitiously into China via Dalny and Antung. The number o f men and women coming to the missionaries for relief- from the . morphine' habit is largely on the increase. The only radical cure is to cut off the supply o f the drug at the fountainhead. It is, certainly an anomaly for Britain to send out mission aries to the Chinese and at the same time openly to send out supplies o f morphine that, as is well known, cannot be used medicinally, all for the sake o f the enor mous profits made. Let prayer be made, by the Church that this curse to the peo ple and hindrance to our work may be speedily removed.—Missionary Review. Napolean said, “When China is moved, she will move, the world.”
