THE KING’S BUSINESS

pray for myself and it seemed to' help me so much. I am so glad I learned to pray for myself; it has 'been and is such a comfort.” She is still ill; not long will she be here, we fear, but God her Father, is her comfort and stay. Such little oases cheer and comfort those who go out to do the Lord’s work, and assure us that He is with us, and that His Word shall not return unto Him void.

dear little woman, a Catholic, who seemed so impressed, with the truth that we could come to God ourselves, just as her children came to her, asking Him for daily needs. She had accepted Christ as her Saviour in a personal, definite Way at the time, and then other matters interfering, we had lost sight o f her. As we talked with her, she said, “ Oh, when I was so ill, I would get my little boy to read from the copy, o f ‘John* you left with me; then I would

-------------- O ----- --------- WORK IN THE SHOPS

David Cant, Supt.

W E never can tell just when the Word o f God is going to sink into some hungry heart and spring up into life eter nal, so “let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season, we shall reap, if we faint not.” “The wind bloweth where it listeth and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh or whither it goeth; so is every one that is born o f the Spirit.” Only this week a man over 70 years of age told us that a message he had heard forty years previous to 1 his conversion, was used o f God in bringing him to the Saviour. Just think o f a man running away from the Word o f God for all that time, and yet the Holy Spirit forcing that same Word upon his heart and conscience till he came to, the end o f himself and arose and came to his Father! And now for the past ten years he has been telling the sweet old love story to others. After all, it is just the quiet, steady, persistent -giving out o f the Word o f God which counts; the constant dropping which wears away the stone. One o f our men, we have been after for nearly two years. Such a defiant, sarcas tic, “ sot” case he was, to be sure. We say “was” , for not so very long ago, he was rushed to the hospital and a quick operas iion was necessary to save his life. It was a close call, but he is gentle and mild

and willing to listen now, and really wants to let someone else do the talking. We would like prayer for this young man, for we believe he is soon to be called to go somewhere “over there” , and while it might be comparatively easy to force him to a profession, we do want the Holy Spirit to work in his heart with deep ploughing, until rooted and grounded, he may be able to stand in an evil day “trusting Jesus, that is all.” Another o f our men was quietly spoken to at the close o f a meeting and simply went all to pieces- Brokenly, between his tears, the story was told o f one who in former years had known something o f that peace which passeth all understanding, but having married an unsaved woman, he had been having a hard time with his father- in-law, and now, heavy-hearted, wanted to come back. He is exceedingly anxious that his wife shall be reached and brought to know the Lord. Again, we were leaving a carbarn when one who is always on the lookout, spoke to a man and discovered a truly anxious soul, only waiting for someone to talk to him. The message o f grace was given, Christ’s finished work presented, and a decision was reached then and there. A quiet hand-grasp, a few grateful words of thanks, several pointed Scriptures quoted,
