here, and Jesus Demanded Peace from the Winds and Waves, and immediately the wind hushed its voice and departed, and the waves crouched at His feet like a whipped dog. There is One mightier than Satan; there is One who came to destroy his works; there is One who can defeat his purposes—and that One is the Man worth while loving and following. There is no more fearful picture o f the awful havoc Satan works in the human body than that presented here. No one could bind this man; no one could tame him; he had no power to protect himself from himself, and yet One came who Delivered the Demon Possessed, and that man was the Lord Jesus whom we love and follow. He who spoke peace' to the waves, spoke peace to the sin-cursed man. Who can forgive sin ? Who can cast out ,demons? Who can speak peace to demon- possessed men, save One, and He must be God, and He is—God manifest in the flesh. The new life in the sayed man is mani fested in his desire to be with his Master, and the Master’s desire is manifested in Delegating this Witness to Represent Him in Decapolis. The prayer o f the demon- possessed man was favorably responded to, I N this lesson two events are given. A stormy sea and a stormy life. The cause o f the storms in both cases is the same and the One who calms the storm in both instances is the same. Satan is the orig inator o f the storm and Jesus is the One who calms it. Storms o f circumstances. —A young man often wonders why the circumstances of his life change to just the opposite o f what he had planned. Sometimes we have care fully calculated how to make a certain amount o f money in a given length o f time. W e planned the details with the greatest care but to our disappointment circum stances all unforeseen and beyond our con trol thwarted us. Or possibly we have

and so was the prayer o f the Gadarenes, denied, though something far better was accorded him. He was made an ambas sador o f the Son o f God, and no higher honor is ever conferred upon any man. This, then, is our honor. God send us forth to witness for Him. PRACTICAL POINTS (1) Man is related to two kingdoms. (2) Note the difference o f demon posses sion in this man, in Judas, and in Ananias. (3) No human hand can sever Satan's chains. (4) Cultivating nature does not change nature. (3) Demons believed in the Deity o f Jesus Christ; they had more sense than some professors. ( 6 ) The personality o f demons is prac tically demonstrated. (7) The demon-possessed man became a divinely-possessed preacher. ( 8 ) The compassion o f Christ is shown in performing this great miracle. • (9) There is an untamed wild' beast in the best o f men. planned to do some work for God, and to our astonishment obstacles piled ‘ up that seemed unsurmountable. These circum stantial storms can be overcome only by finding the will o f God, in prayer and Bible study, and in trusting God absolutely to take care o f events and give us strength to outride the storm. As Hudson Taylor, the great missionary to Inland China, once said, “ God is the great circumstance.” Storms o f passion and desire. —These often threaten to overpower the soul. A young minister once said to me, “ There are days in my life when it seems as if I must yield to fleshly desires, but I go to God and get victory.” This is probably what Paul meant in Eph. 6:13, “Wherefore
