THE KING’S BUSINESS
take unto you the whole armour o f God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done ajl, to stand.” Not all storms or all lustful desires are directly o f the Devil, but he uses the elements and the desires o f men to carry out his pur poses in so far as God permits him. Th$ author o f peace .—Jesus is peace. Jesus made peace. Jesus gives peace. Jesus is thè Prince o f Peace. He made peace o f Calvary’s Cross and He gives peace to all those who will take it by faith. “My peace I give unto you” (John 14:27). A man went into a store in an eastern city and spoke to a young Hebrew business man. He told him that peace with God had been made by the Messiah who had come and made atonement, for all o f men’s rebellion, on Calvary. The young man had no peace. His soul was buffeted by the storms of doubt, fear, con viction and almost remorse. But finally, like the disciples on the boat, he rushed to Jesus and surrendered to Him ; instantly peace came. He is now winning hundreds o f his race to God. The nations are wanting peace as well as the individuals, but they will not have it, until Jesus, the Prince o f Peace, comes. Some ministers and college professors said, a few years ago, that the world would never have another great war. But now we are in the awful cauldron o f the great est strife that the world has ever known. When Jesus rises from the Father’s throne above and comes, He will bring peace. Jesus’ power.-tfln the first event in this lesson Jesus is the author o f peace and power to the elements of earth. In the
second event He is the author o f peace and power to a human soul. The only source o f ' power today to overcome these devilish forces about and within is found in the Risen Son o f God at God’s right hand. A saloon keeper, political grafter, race-, course gambler and fornicator, came in con tact with Jesus- Christ about three o’clock one mbrning in his own room. He walked down to his hotel (so-called) and told his head man that he was through with the business. He walked out and left it all for, the saloon keepers and brewers to fight over. He had but seven dollars in his pocket, but he has lived a clean life ever since and won hundreds to Christ. In an after meeting some years ago a Christian worker saw a company o f young people trying to lead a girl to Christ. As he passed one o f them asked him to stop and talk with her. She had an unpleasant twitching o f the face. The doctors said it was Saint Vitus’ Dance. She wanted to come to Christ but simply could not break away from some unseep power and pray. Finally the company knelt and this worker prayed that the dumb spirit holding her might be cast out and the girl set free. Instantly she .began to pray, the ner vous twitching o f the face ceased and she became a peaceful, sweet Christian. She has never had this physical malady since and for sixteen years has been a useful child o f God. Splendid illustrations o f demon posses sion in our own day are to be found in Dr. Nevin’s book and also in the story of Pastor Shi.
