Summary of the Week: Students will learn about the major economic activities in the United States and how they impact people, the economy, and the environment. Students will use this knowledge to research the economic activities of their state. Standards: N/A Teacher Background Knowledge: This week discusses the various industries that are part of the economy of the United States. Explain to students that these are an overview of some of the economic factors that are a large part of the United States, and not all are listed. Notes for Teacher: ● The sequence of articles in this week is designed to build and support the learning of concepts for students. ● This week’s learning activity involves students participating in a jigsaw activity to learn about the five industries discussed in the publication, which gives students the opportunity to participate in flexible learning groups. If students require more assistance, consider working with students in a small group to facilitate learning. ● There are several ways to connect the content in this week to mathematics concepts. Students can conduct additional research, using statistical data obtained from reliable government websites (U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Transportation, etc.), and create a visual representation of the data, such as a bar graph, line graph, pie chart, or data table.
