2. Group the students in pairs, and have them read the two articles together. Have them quiz each other on what spending and saving mean. 3. Show the video “Spending and Saving Money - 2nd.” Have the students listen for the word “money” and the different ways we use it. 4. Have the students create two columns in their interactive notebooks with their partner. One column will be titled “Spending” and the other “Saving.” 5. In the “Spending” column, have the students list all the things that cost money that they have used today (e.g., lights, water, food, clothes, shelter, school supplies, playground equipment, desks, etc.). In the “Saving” column, have them list all the things that they would like to save money to buy. 6. Have the partners pair up with another group and compare their lists. 7. In those groups, have students discuss the pros and cons associated with saving and spending money. 8. Have groups share their ideas. 9. Have students create a page in their interactive notebooks called “Saving and Spending.” Students should add a definition of each term and list the pros and cons they discussed in their groups underneath each definition. 10.Extension activity: Show students the image of the pie chart “Budgeting Time,” found in related media, and discuss how the students “spend” their time. a. Have students complete the graphic organizer Budgeting My Time. b. Students can share their ideas with a partner or in small groups. c.
