The beach is just off the front of the open lobby, but you aren’t as secluded as it may first seem. The Anantara Seminyak Bali is more romantic for a couple’s getaway than their Bangkok counterpart, although school holidays finds it full of happy families. It is a boutique resort, and much smaller than many of their other locations. The common areas in this villa- like hotel are mostly open air, providing a welcoming breeze, and playing host to small, colorful, local birds. No detail has been overlooked to build a zen escape, where you move between an authentic rusticness in tune with the local environment, to pure luxury as you retire to your plush suite. All the guest rooms feature a large balcony with a private Jacuzzi made of natural stone, daybeds and a ceiling fan. While most of the rooms look out onto the courtyard pool, it is worth booking a Sea View room, which has its balcony perched out over the beach.

Start with a cocktail at sundown during their generous happy hour. Sips with an inspiring view overlooking the ocean. The stretch of beach in front is mostly uninhabited, so it’s a tranquil place to listen to the waves crashing in and to appreciate the swirls of vibrant colors of the sunsets in this part of the world. The menu is a mix of Asian fusion, pulling from Indian Curries, Philippino classics, Vietnamese salads, and local favorites. They do an excellent job of executing a wide range of authentic Asian cuisines, perhaps with the aid of the hundreds of dried spices and pickling jars along the walls. Dessert was divine. Try the White Chocolate Lychee Soufflé. We almost ordered a second. Seminyak is both the party and fine dining capital of Bali. Indulge in fabulous restaurants, steak houses, fine wines, hand crafted cocktails, incredible shopping and all night affairs, at ½ to 1/3 the cost of home.
