He started as a baby. Time went by, and he grew to be a child, then an adult. The images are in order on the timeline. 6. Explain why timelines are important. Timelines put events in order. Timelines help us to understand history and how things happen. Timelines can show events that happen in hours, days, weeks, months, or years. a. Refer to the timeline on the front of the student edition. Ask: i. Does this timeline show events in a day? A week? Months? Years? (years) ii. How can you tell? (The boy is growing up and changing over the years.) 7. Explain that the students are going to make a timeline of their own. Have the students discuss the events of their day in order, using the following questions: a. What do you do before you come to school? (Answers may vary.) b. What do we do when we get to school? (Answers may vary.) c. What classes do we go to today? (Answers may vary.) d. When do we go to recess? (Answers may vary.) e. What do you do when you get home from school? (Answers may vary.) 8. Show the Poster Pal activity “Timeline of Our Day.” Give each student a copy of the graphic organizer Timeline of My Day. As the students complete their graphic organizer, complete the timeline on the Poster Pal. The beginning and ending events will be different for each student. Guide the students to label each event on the lines. 9. Have a discussion about the timeline. Reinforce the concepts that were taught during the lesson. a. What events does your timeline show?
