High Impact Teaching Strategies: Collaborative Learning, Differentiated Instruction, Feedback, Questioning Lesson Plan: 1. Explain to students that another important issue that the Continental Congress had to deal with was maintaining a military. This was not an easy task, and their approach was very different from the British government’s. 2. Have students read the article independently. While reading, students should underline, highlight, or circle the main idea of the article and supporting details from each paragraph. 3. Give each student a copy of the graphic organizer Close Read. 4. Have students work in pairs or small groups to reread the article and complete their graphic organizers. 5. Give students time to share their responses with the class or another group. 6. Create a class anchor chart with student responses, and provide feedback, as needed. Article Assessment Questions: 1.
