BROLL AUCTIONS AND SALES

in KwaZulu-Natal as infrastructure is improved or expanded, and smart city developments like Westown are approved. “We are also doing a fair number of cross-border auctions for properties abroad,” Norman reports. “We have an office in Mauritius and have identified some good property stock on the island which will go to auction before year-end. We’ve been to a number of out-of-country auctions, to cities further afield than Mauritius, and in my opinion, our auctions are as good as the best. Globally, this mode of disposing of property is as powerful and valid as ever. I only wish our Government could recognise the value of the auction platform in disposing of non-core assets, in a transparent manner, to the private sector.” The value is two-fold as Norman explains. The money earned will fill state coffers and can be used to support many much-needed programmes to alleviate poverty or improve infrastructure, for example. The list is endless. In addition, the private sector can open doors to employment by repurposing dilapidated, neglected state buildings, and kickstart a wider movement to improve the surrounding neighbourhood. The snowball impact of private sector involvement would be hugely significant. “I think some of the younger, better-educated members of Government are starting to recognise that if they want to effect change and uplift CBD areas, they need to look at what an auction platform offers.”
