MSM PROPERTY FUND
It’s about ordinary South Africans who can say they have a house, or an investment, or that they put their child through school because they were invested in the right space.
Both Musi and Vuyani bring deep industry experience to MSM’s mission. Musi spent a decade in investment banking before striking out to build a more inclusive investment vehicle. Vuyani spent almost three decades in asset management, managing unit trusts, some with links to socially responsible outcomes for labour unions, and setting up and managing private equity funds, some with impact investing focus. That initial experience instilled in him a focus on both financial returns and social impact, which he now gets to apply daily. Looking ahead: defining success beyond the numbers As MSM looks to the future, success is measured not only in assets under management or investment performance, but in the tangible difference made in people’s lives. “The example of the security guard and his investment – that’s the kind of legacy we want to leave,” says Musi. “With the Infrastructure Impact Fund, we want to be able to say that we built shopping centres or healthcare facilities in places where they gave people jobs and enabled businesses to thrive. As much as the numbers are important and our clients will always see those, it’s not really about the numbers. It’s about ordinary South Africans who can say they have a house, or an investment, or that they put their child through school because they were invested in the right space.” From its modest beginnings to managing over R1 billion in assets, MSM Property Fund has carved out a unique place in South Africa’s property investment landscape. Its dual commitment to financial performance and social impact, its embrace of technology and its vision of democratising access to property, mark it out as a business with both resilience and purpose. As the property market evolves and the country grapples with new challenges, MSM’s guiding philosophy – “We Are Change” – seems set to remain both a rallying cry and a roadmap for the years ahead.
