A Message from our General Manager
Dear SLTO family,
I’d like to begin by extending my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your incredible hard work, dedication, positive energy, and unwavering commitment during TIFF 2025. The teamwork we displayed from our communication to coordination was second to none. This is what defines us at Shangri-La Toronto: the best team in the city! Not only did we deliver a remarkable TIFF experience, but we also achieved a strong and successful Q3. This summer, we reached 100% occupancy on multiple days and welcomed more guests than we have since before the pandemic. It was wonderful to see all their smiling faces in the hotel and the spectacular experiences we provided for our guests. We also had a wonderful week celebrating our Hotel’s 13th Anniversary! Thank you to all the teams who helped organize this fun-filled week of activities. It was great to see everyone enjoying the sunny weather on our terrace and the outstanding lunch and dinner in Museum Room. I also want to recognize the meaningful ways we've supported our local community by participating in the SickKids Volleyball Tournament, hosting cooking demonstrations and providing food donations for our Embrace Partner, Covenant House. Your efforts continue to make the real difference. Let this momentum finish the year on a high note through caring for our guests, our communities, and each other.

Anand L. Director of Commercial
It is with great pleasure that we announce the internal promotion of Anand Lilani to the position of Director of Commercial, effective July 6, 2025.
Anand moved to Toronto as Director of Revenue Optimization(SLTO &SLV) in November 2023. During his time here, Anand has made immense contribution to the over all success of the hotel and has been a great team member, building amazing collaborations between our teams. Anand has always been very approachable, and his pleasant demeanor is what makes it so easy for various departments to work in synergy with him. Anand is no stranger to the world of Sales and Events, during his time in Shangri-La Tokyo apart from overseeing the Revenue optimization, Anand also overviewed the Sales and Events in an interim role. As some of us know, a fun fact about Anand is he loves to travel and explore with is family. Truth be told he is probably seen more of Canada than most of us!
In his new role Anand will be over all in charge of Sales, Events and Revenue Optimization teams at Shangri-La Toronto.
Please join us in congratulating Anand on this well-deserved promotion and we wish him continued success in his career with Shangri-La!

We are pleased to share that Ashwin Mathur will be taking on the General Manager role at Shangri-La Toronto effective August 1, 2025.
This appointment supports our ongoing efforts to maintain strong leadership within the property while we continue to shape the longer-term organizational structure. Ashwin brings valuable experiences over the past two decades and a deep understanding of our people, guests, and operations, positioning him well to lead during this period of transition and growth. We will continue to review our leadership needs in line with business priorities. Please join us in welcoming Ashwin Mathur into this capacity and offering your full support and collaboration as Ashwin takes on this expanded mandate.

Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival (November 5 th – 15 th ) Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival is a unique showcase of contemporary Asian cinema and work from Asia and the Asian diaspora. Works include films and videos by artists in Canada, the U.S., Asia and all over the world. As Canada’s largest pan-Asian film festival, Reel Asian provides a public forum for Asian media artists and their work, and fuels the growing appreciation for Asian cinema in Canada.
Winter Festival of Lights Niagara Falls (November 16 th – Jan 5 th )
Canada’s largest outdoor light festival is back for a 42 nd spectacular year, offering a packed lineup of free entertainment and enjoyment for all ages. Brand-new interactive light displays inspire connection and play while returning family favourites, free concerts, holiday meet and greets and a picturesque poinsettia show bring the spirit of the season to life throughout Niagara Parks. On select nights, visitors can enjoy awe-inspiring fireworks and receive a special delivery of cheer from the Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan.

Chef ’s Corner Squash Soup By Executive Chef, JohnRoss Woodland
Sachet
Ingredients
• Fennel seed – 1g • Coriander seed – 1g • Peppercorn – 1g • Cinnamon stick – 1pc • Clove – 2pc • Fresh ginger sliced – 13g
• Olive oil – 50g • Onion sliced – 250g • Leek sliced – 100g • Carrot sliced – 150g • Vegetable stock – 1.2L • 35% Cream – 500ml • Salt – 20g • Honey – 18g • Roasted butternut squash – 800g
Instructions

Peel, cube, and toss the Squash in half the oil. Roast for 20-30 minutes in 400F oven. Sauté onion, leek and carrot in olive oil.
Add roasted Squash.
Add vegetable stock, sachet, and bring to a simmer. Add cream and simmer until vegetables are soft.
Remove Sachet.

Transfer to a blender and puree.
