CELEBRATING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
“At the heart of it all, we come from the same place. Thousands of years ago, as humans migrated into new environments, we found new ways to prepare food, to make music, and to shape traditions. That is culture. No matter how different it may look across the world, the common elements remain: family, meaning, and purpose. During Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the ways Hispanic culture enriches that shared human story. And in the end, the human story is the one we all share.” TROY LARAVIERE From remarks by Troy LaRaviere, then principal of Blaine Elementary, at the school’s annual Hispanic Heritage celebration, Noche Hispana 2015

“ The Board of Education for the City of Chicago is honored to recognize and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
As we take this significant moment in time to highlight the rich history and traditions of Hispanic heritage, we also pay tribute to their many achievements and contributions to our nation. With enthusiasm, we wholeheartedly embrace this month as an opportunity to join in amplifying Hispanic voices and stories, which are intricately woven throughout the District: from the Chicago Board of Education to administrators, educators, and staff, and into the schools and classrooms in every neighborhood of our city. While we strive to continuously build our shared future, we are grateful for the leadership of our Chicago Public Schools principals who work to create welcoming, safe, and supportive learning environments in which students can thrive. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!” SEAN HARDEN | Chicago Board of Education, President
